2026 CHEVRON CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

The first major of the year on the LPGA Tour is here! It takes place at a new course, but the stakes are just as high.

The Chevron Championship has moved to a new course in Texas, which is familiar to golf fans – as Memorial Park Golf Course also plays host to the PGA Tour.

This is the first year the Chevron Championship will be contested at Memorial Park after three editions at The Club at Carlton Woods. The three winners at that course were Lilia Vu (2023), Nelly Korda (2024), and Mao Saigo last year.

Saigo won her first career major by emerging from a five-person playoff.

Sunday’s final day a year ago was playing difficult with Saigo – who was tied for the 54-hole lead – and Lindy Duncan shooting over par. Ariya Jutanugarn, Hyo Joo Kim, and Ruoning Yin also finished at 7 under after 72 holes.

Saigo birdied the first playoff hole to win the title after Duncan made a bogey and Jutanugarn, Kim, and Yin settling for pars.

Golf Town athlete Brooke Henderson is excited to get the major season started in 2026 and said she is going to try to prioritize her preparation for the major championships a little more in 2026.

“In past years, I’ve always tried to peak for them, but this year I’m going to try to really emphasize them and try to have some strong finishes! And that all starts in April,” Brooke said.

Brooke finished tied for 44th at last year’s Chevron Championship and said while she is familiar with the area she is excited to get out and learn the golf course – especially since the men have played it so much in the past.

With a laugh, Brooke said she’s hoping the pond is a little cleaner for a winner’s leap. The club, in fact, built a little pool next to the 18th green for the winner of the Chevron Championship to take their iconic winners’ jump into – so Brooke is good to go in case she’s lifting the trophy at the end of the week!

Brooke said that the opportunity to play a golf course that is familiar to golf fans, and one that men have played a lot before, means a lot to her and the rest of the girls on the LPGA Tour.

“We appreciate the opportunities to play on the iconic courses the men have played on and made famous,” Brooke said. “I also think it’s great for the fans and growing the game in general to see the women play the same course as the men and have us play courses fans are familiar with.”

Brooke is not the only Canadian who is set to tee it up at the first major of the year, with amateur Shauna Liu also earning her way into the field.

Shauna, who is the reigning Canadian Junior Girls champion and has committed to playing collegiate golf at UCLA, won The Nelly Invitational presented by Chevron last year. The winner of that AJGA event got an invitation to the Chevron Championship.

Starting the final round an incredible nine shots off the lead, Shauna, in the final round, made eight straight birdies through the mid-point of the day on Nos. 6-13 and made a birdie on the first playoff hole to win the tournament – her fourth AJGA title.

“I came in today kind of just wanting to play and try my best. I had a stretch where I made eight birdies in a row, I was really dialed in with my approach shot and made a few putts,” she said at the time.

While Shauna is excited to make her major championship debut, Brooke is looking to start the 2026 major season off with a bang.
