There’s no arguing that more Canadians are playing more golf than ever before, however, some of those divot-diggers might be entering into a fall season of the sport for the first time.
Since we want all golfers to come out and play – no matter the season – we are your number one destination for everything you need to get the most of your game regardless of the weather conditions.
Playing golf in the fall is a personal favourite for so many – the colours, the crisp temperatures, and the emotion in knowing that every round might be your last of the season – but you’ll want to make sure you are geared up in order to take advantage those conditions.
“There are so many factors that can affect your game in colder or wet weather,” says Geoff Pinheiro, the director of purchasing for Golf Town. “You really need to stay warm and dry, remember you’re likely out on the course for 3.5 or four hours so layering is key. Also, proper footwear becomes even more important as the ground becomes wet, it’s extremely difficult to play well if you’re sliding around the course.
Here we’ve got eight products to help you get ready for fall golf.
Coloured Golf Balls
Golf Town has a big-time collection of coloured golf balls that can be put into play during the fall months for a variety of reasons.
“They are easier to see in the air and easier to find if you’re off the fairway,” says Pinheiro. “They really do help the pace of play and I really love the look of them.” Whether you play Callaway, Bridgestone, Srixon, TaylorMade, or Titleist normally, try to experiment with a coloured ball this fall. You won’t see any reduction in performance, you’ll only see, well, the balls a little better.
Cart Cover
The ultimate universal cart cover helps to keep you protected when the conditions turn nasty but you’re not quite ready to pack it in. The cart cover’s front panel rolls up when not in use, the side panel is easily opened to help as you enter and exit the cart, and it boasts durable two-way zippers for easy use. Velcro straps and j-hooks help keep the cart cover secured.
Rain Gloves
Some of the biggest brands in golf are committed to helping Canadian golfers to keep their seasons going with gloves built for the elements. For women there are the WinterSof gloves from FootJoy that boast water-resistant knit palms that have secure grips and soft feels. They are warm and windproof. For the men there are the TaylorMade Rain Control Golf Gloves, which are designed to have 40 percent stronger grip than regular gloves and are designed to give golfers the ability to swing with confidence no matter the conditions.
Cart Heater
The golf-cart heater fits inside a standard cup-holder in a cart while putting out 4000 BTUs of heat. It also boasts a wind-resistant burner and pilot system for the ultimate in safety. It’s a perfect little addition while riding in the fall.
Insulated Mugs
A couple of great products to keep your coffee or tea piping hot throughout your round. First is the Chaser 20oz mug from ORCA – made of stainless steel and featuring a double-walled, vacuum seal, the interior copper clad helps with superior temperature retention. ORCA also has a 27oz tumbler which has the same stainless steel double-walled vacuum sealed body to keep your drinks hot (or cold!)
Heated Pouch
The original G-Tech Heated Pouch is now in its fifth generation boasting patented hand-warming technology. It features water resistant materials, an adjustable waist strap, a rechargeable battery, and offers more than 12 hours of consistent heat.
Umbrellas
There are umbrellas, and then there are golf umbrellas. What may be a little inappropriate walking down a busy street makes total sense on the golf course, and brands like Under Armour and TaylorMade have double-canopy umbrellas to help keep you dry while repelling the elements.
