After a victory, seven top-10 results, and more travel miles than she can count, Golf Town Athlete Brooke Henderson will enjoy a well-deserved break through December and the holiday season as she gears up for 2022.
It’s a year that will hopefully bring her even more success on the LPGA Tour, and for the first time since 2019, a return to Canada for the country’s national open.
“During the pandemic the last couple years not having fans and then not having my regular Canadian supporters (on site) was definitely a big deal. I realized how much I missed having fans out there and missed having the Brooke Brigade follow along and the red and white shirts lining the fairway!” Brooke said in a year-end conversation with us. “I’m definitely very excited for next year at the CP Women’s Open and just those other opportunities where hopefully travel restrictions aren’t as tight and Canadians can follow in the U.S. That would be awesome.”
WIN NUMBER 10
Brooke captured her 10th LPGA Tour title in April this year at the HUGEL-AIR PREMIA LA Open and finished inside the top-10 in the world – both huge accomplishments. She also finished inside the top 10 in Average Driving Distance, Greens in Regulation, and Scoring Average.
She said she’s so excited to get back to competition in 2022 and build off her success from this year – another season where, despite a few ups and downs and tons of travel (including to the Olympics and back-and-forth from Europe and Asia to her home in Florida), she was able to check a lot of positive boxes.
“I’m still in the Top 10 in the Rolex Rankings when the season ended, which feels awesome,” said Brooke. “And knowing that I have room to grow and room to improve is very exciting, and I look forward to having the opportunity to do that.”
Brooke is good friends with Jin Young Ko, who ended up winning Player of the Year honours on the LPGA Tour after notching five victories – a truly impressive season by Ko, who also won the last CP Women’s Open contested.
Brooke said that every year the players are getting better and better on the LPGA Tour and it’s getting tougher to win. But she was quick to say that playing against the best in the world is something that keeps her motivated to get better.
“To be able to play against the best every single week and be in contention and have won this past year, it’s really awesome,” said Brooke. “You know you’re beating the best, which is pretty cool.”
WRAPPING UP THE YEAR
As far as the next few weeks goes, Brooke said she’ll enjoy some down time with her parents and will play in some charity events before the end of December. Otherwise, she said she’s going to be putting in some work on the golf-specific skills she’s hopeful to improve on while also continuing to say healthy, get a little bit stronger, and take care of herself.
“Looking back there were lots of positive things that happened in 2021,” said Brooke. “Really happy to get the 10th win and I found the things that I need to put some work in on and hopefully will improve a little bit for next year!”
The LPGA Tour’s schedule for 2022 will feature a record overall purse size and a more ‘normal’ travel line-up – with no Solheim Cup or Olympics on the docket. Brooke said she’s looking forward to playing the kind of schedule like what she had pre-COVID.
She can’t wait to keep the momentum going into 2022.
“It’s exciting. The LPGA Tour’s purses have gone up and we’ve gained some tournaments. Everything is on the up and up,” she said. “I’m looking forward to 2022 and hopefully performing well!”
Brooke will start her season at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions on Jan. 20 in Orlando, Fla.
