WIN NUMBER ELEVEN FOR BROOKE

Golf Town Athlete Brooke Henderson won for the 11th time on the LPGA Tour Sunday. Brooke topped Lindsay Weaver-Wright in a playoff to win the ShopRite LPGA Tour Classic.

“Coming into today I just was trying to go low and see what happens. I didn’t think — I mean, I thought the victory was a possibility, but there are a lot of really talented players ahead of me and I think I was four shots back starting the day,” said Brooke.

“I knew it was going to take a little bit of magic, and I’m just really happy that I’m sitting here next to the trophy.”

Brooke shot a sizzling 7-under 64 Sunday, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 9th. Brooke was 5 under through her first nine holes before settling in through the back nine. She added a birdie on the par-4 12th and another on the par-5 finisher before she eagled the first playoff hole to win it.

Among the chasers were LPGA Tour winners Nasa Hataoka, Lydia Ko, Marina Alex, and Brittany Lincicome. Despite the hearty challengers, it was Brooke who topped them all Sunday.

Weaver-Wright rolled in a slippery 15-footer for birdie on the 72nd hole to join Brooke at 12 under after 54 holes. She was looking for her first LPGA Tour title.

Brooke took a month off the LPGA Tour through most of May and returned home to Canada but came back at the U.S. Women’s Open and finished tied for 15th.

Save for the pandemic-impacted 2020 season, Brooke has now won every year on the LPGA Tour since 2016.

“I love being in the final groups on the weekend,” said Brooke. “That’s the goal moving forward.”

Funny enough, Brooke’s victory came Sunday of the RBC Canadian Open, which returned to the PGA Tour schedule for the first time since 2019.

She now heads to the Meijer LPGA Classic, where she is a two-time champion, before teeing it up at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship – the major she won in 2016.
