59-51 |
50-41 of SCOREGolf‘s Top 59 Canadian Public Golf Courses
50. Copper Point – Point
Invermere, B.C. – Giveaway Date: August 3
Wide fairways and plenty of elevation changes highlight holes that run through forested terrain in the foothills of the Kootenay Rockies at this Gary Browning/Wade Horrocks collaboration. The strong 18th hole caps a solid routing at Copper Point.
49. Wolf Creek – Old
Ponoka, Alta. – Giveaway Date: August 3
Rod Whitman’s first solo design promotes golf on the ground with firm fairways and inviting greens while mistakes are penalized by lurking pot bunkers and native fescue areas. This course inspired many of Whitman’s other designs.
48. Trickle Creek
Kimberley, B.C. – Giveaway Date: August 3
Trickle Creek is a dramatic mountain course offering eye-candy throughout, whether in the form of white-sand bunkers, majestic lodgepole pine or the looming Northstar Mountain. The Les Furber design is a thrill.
47. Shadow Mountain
Cranbrook, B.C. – Giveaway Date: August 4
Shadow Mountain features two of the most memorable holes in Western Canada, with the dropshot 15th and 17th, nicknamed The Drive and The Monster respectively, worth the green fee alone. The rest of the Cranbrook, B.C., course is quite good too.
46. Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu
La Malbaie, Que. – Giveaway Date: August 4
High above the St. Lawrence River, the St. Laurent and Richelieu nines at Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu combine to form a fun course with several dramatic holes, none more so than the stunning opener on St. Laurent, which plummets towards the water in the distance.
45. Chateau Bromont
Bromont, Que. – Giveaway Date: August 4
Part of a beautiful resort, the golf course at Chateau Bromont is not your typical ultra-friendly layout catering to all levels of golfers. It is a solid challenge on a billowing property at the base of Mont Brome. The PGA Tour Canada will contest an event here this summer.
44. Le Diable
Mont Tremblant, Que. – Giveaway Date: August 5
With its trademark red-sand bunkers and massive greens, Le Diable — The Devil — is a solid golf course in Quebec’s popular Mont Tremblant area. The course was designed by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry and always makes for a fun round.
43. Silvertip
Canmore, Alta. – Giveaway Date: August 5
Silvertip is as dramatic a golf course as there is in this country, with the Three Sisters Mountain Peaks towering high above you as you play. The Les Furber design in the Alberta Rockies is adventure golf from start to finish.
42. Northumberland Links
Pugwash, N.S. – Giveaway Date: August 5
Northumberland Links makes its well-deserved first appearance on the Top 59. The scenic — and very affordable — oceanside golf course is full of character and interest and includes some of the coolest green complexes anywhere.
41. Wolf Creek – Links
Ponoka, Alta. – Giveaway Date: August 6
This Links Course at Wolf Creek combines original and new nines by Rod Whitman. Like the Old Course at Wolf Creek, this track features wide fairways and plenty of attack options to ideally located green complexes.
