In recent years, hybrids haven’t made the same gains we’ve seen in other golf clubs. Irons launch higher and are easier to hit, leading to the emergence of utility irons that creep into the hybrid space. Titleist wants to change that with the latest TSR hybrid lineup, offering different versions of the hybrid that will appeal to everyone from the slower swinging golfer to the aspiring tour pro. “There are a lot of clubs competing for the top of the bag,” says Luke Epp, Titleist’s Global Product Marketing Manager. “This category is under a lot of pressure, and I think players are going to find some great options here depending on what they are seeking.”
TSR1
“This is what happens if a fairway and hybrid had a baby,” says Epp. It is easy to see why. The TSR1 is a lightweight hybrid with a head that will appeal to both players who love fairway woods, and those seeking the options presented by a hybrid. This is a line that looks more like a smaller fairway wood than a traditional hybrid.
Stability
The goal of the TSR1 hybrid is to offer more stability and speed for moderate swing speed golfers. The larger clubhead offers a lot of forgiveness and increases confidence.
Optimized Lightweight Design
The goal of the TSR1 hybrid is to find the balance of lightweight feel and forgiveness. The mix of the two in the TSR1 leads to faster swing speeds and better ball speed.
Is it for me?
Golfers with moderate swing speeds are going to love the mix of fairway and hybrid found in the TSR1, as well as the ability to readily get the ball in the air.
TSR2
A traditionally shaped hybrid for golfers with a sweeping delivery, players are going to love the mix of increased forgiveness and classic appearance.
Longer blade
The blade on the TSR2 is slightly longer than previous generations and moves impact from the shaft, allowing the face to flex more, increasing speed and distance.
More forgiving
The centre of gravity is pushed low and deep, allowing Titleist to increase forgiveness without changing how shots launch.
Improved turf interaction
Titleist added sole relief pockets to the TSR2 to allow the club to move through the rough easier. There’s less friction and, therefore less chance of the club grabbing and turning over.
Is it for me?
If you’re a golfer who tends to sweep the ball with your hybrids, this is going to be a great fit.
TSR3
“This is an iron-like hybrid for the golfer that hits down on the ball,” says Epp. “It also allows the player to find more speed.” With its SureFit system allowing fitters to tune in the nuances of the TSR3 hybrid, and an iron-like shape that appeals to better golfers, this is the club for those seeking to work the ball from the tee or the fairway.
Shape
The TSR3 leans heavily on Titleist’s tour connections with top players. With a deeper profile and very little offset, this is a hybrid that will appeal to the best golfers.
Dialled in
The TSR3 uses a SureFit system that can be dialled to five different positions for the player who really wants to fit their hybrid to their game.
Improved turf interaction
Like the TSR2, Titleist added sole relief pockets to the TSR3 to allow the club to move through rough easier. There’s less friction and, therefore, less chance of the club grabbing and turning over.
