Taylormade’s Qi Irons Take Game Improvement To A New Level

“Qi Irons represent a fusion of performance and design, delivering a combination of distance. and accuracy with a solid feel unexpected of game improvement irons,” says Matt Bovee, TaylorMade’s Director Of Production Creation for irons. “We rely on a team of technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of giving golfers straight distance that outperforms the competition.”

TaylorMade’s Qi series is about creating forgiveness without losing speed and distance. That’s what it has done with its drivers and that’s a philosophy that’s been incorporated into the irons as well.

Lose The Right Bias

Higher-handicap golfers often have a pronounced fade—let’s admit it and own that slice. Recognizing that, TaylorMade has addressed the fade bias in Qi’s long irons. You’ll find less right bias, allowing for straighter shots.

Integrated System Design

New to TaylorMade, this is a concept of optimizing each iron head. There’s a lot of tech in the Qi irons, including Speed Pocket, Cap Back Design, and others, which impact face design and mass distribution. Integrated System Design means each head is considered to ensure gapping, ball speeds and consistent launch angle. For example, longer irons have a lower profile backbar to help with launch and higher flight, while shorter irons have weighting in the heel and toe to enhanced forgiveness and control over each shot. In essence, this is about making longer irons easier to get in the air and create added control over shorter irons.

Sound and feel

No one wants game improvement irons that sound and feel clunky. To deal with these factors, Qi uses HYBRAR Echo Dampers in the 4 to 9-iron. Each damper is in a ribbed structure that sits behind the face of the club and reduces unwanted vibrations. Using Cap Back Design and 360 undercut allows for a thinner topline and more forgiveness.

Qi HL Irons

Created for slower swinging players seeking a higher launch and faster clubhead speeds. With slightly stronger lofts (2 degrees) compared to the standard model, players can launch the ball higher and make it stop faster. The irons are also lighter (by 26 grams) allowing the golfer to swing the club faster.
