Staff Picks: Gifts for Someone New to Golf

To help take the stress out of holiday shopping, we’ve turned to our team to share their top gift ideas that any golfer will love.

Written by Tanya Johnson, Store General Manager, Moncton Golf Town

I’ve worked with Golf Town for a year now, and I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Before joining I had never swung a golf club before. But let me tell you something – I am now hooked! I’m focused on improving my game and I even started a ladies golf league this year. Here are some of my personal favourite products that are perfect gift ideas for other beginner golfers.

Turf Mat & Chipping Net

I love the Turf Mat and Chipping net combo. This gives me the chance to work on my game in the comfort of my own home. Being new to golf I am not always comfortable practicing in front of groups.  With some whiffle balls I can set up the net in my basement and really focus on my short game.

VivoActive 3 GPS Watch

The VivoActive GPS Watch from Garmin is an amazing little gadget that helps my golf game and is also fitness friendly. From the digital scorecard, to the GPS, green view and smart notifications, the watch will also count my steps and measure my heart rate. This fun watch is something I can use not only on the course, but also in my regular day-to-day activities.

Martini Tees

I always struggle setting my ball on the tee. Being new at this game, I need simplicity. I have enough frustration learning the perfect swing and the right clubs to use. I love the Martini tee because it makes it easy for me. The ball sits on it so easy and they never break! Because let’s be honest, sometimes the tee gets way more than the ball when I take a swing. The martini tees make the perfect little stocking stuffer.

Titleist Personalized Golf Balls

I absolutely love the personalized balls, from having my name or initials on it or even something funny, I love that the ball is mine! This simple idea is the best little gift out there. You can have so much fun creating something special for a loved one. To guarantee delivery by December 24 you need to order by December 7, so come see us soon!

Putting Mat
Callaway Golf 2 x 8 Premium Putting Mat

My putting mat is my favourite golfing aid! I have it set up in my spare room and practice on it daily. I can practice so many different skills and drills on it, like distance control and the proper stance and set up. It is something even my daughter uses with me, teaching her patience and hand-eye coordination. For me there is nothing worse than having strangers watch me practice something I’m not good at. Practicing in my own home is building up my skills and my confidence!

New Golf Shoes

Comfortable golf shoes are so important for your game. I love my new golf shoes. I feel better as a golfer out there, I can plant my feet, and put more power in my swing when I don’t have to worry about my shoes slipping!

Rain Gear

Being in Canada, you don’t realize how much you can extend the season until you have the right gear! The proper outwear gave me quite a few more rounds this year, and all that while being dry and cozy! The quality in this product is amazing, and is worth every penny! It is made for golfers and you can tell when you put it on. It has a light comfortable feel all the while keeping you warm and dry! Make a rainy day a great day! It will come in handy come springtime when we want to get on the course but those April showers pay a visit.

Golf Bags

Golf bags have so much thought and technology put into them now. From the pockets, cooler and individual slots there is a perfect bag for everyone! I personally use Cobra’s Ultralight bag and I love it!  It has lots of pockets to keep my belongings in, and the individual slots for my clubs are the best thing that has ever happened to me! I have enough frustration when learning this game, the last thing I need is a fight with my clubs to get one out! A nice roomy cooler is always a plus to keep my “water” nice and cool.
