PING’s new Glide Forged Pro Wedges fit right in with the company’s focus on custom fitting. In other words, these are wedges that will be fit specifically for the way you use your short irons, whether it is controlling your trajectory on approach shots, or chipping around the green. But don’t think this is just a player’s iron; Glide Forged Pro is aimed at players of various abilities who play in different conditions and use their wedges in different ways. The PING Glide Forged Pro wedges can be pre-order online and will be available in store and online September 9th.
Key features
Smaller shape
Making the Glide Pro smaller heel to toe was a key consideration for PING engineers, with the goal of making the head adaptable to hit different shots. The objective was to make the wedge set up well behind the ball, whether you’re trying to hit a flighted shot from the fairway, or chipping over a greenside bunker.
Friction Face
PING created Emery Blast to add texture to the hitting surface, creating more friction and interaction between the clubface and the ball, allowing for more spin and lower launch conditions. Hydropeal 2.0 chrome finish is added to create higher spin, especially from wet morning conditions in the rough.
More lofts and grinds
How you use your wedges will depend on the course you play and the conditions of that course. Is it firm or soft? Do you face shots over hazards near greens? To ensure golfers have options, PING offers two grind versions in multiple lofts. The S grind is the moderate bounce option with a rounded leading edge to produce an option for the vast majority of golfers. The T grind has a narrower sole with less bounce to make it more versatile around the greens. The wedges are offered in lofts from 50 degrees to 62 degrees. There are an additional eight custom grinds through PING Wrx.
PING EYE2 option
The classic PING EYE2 wedge face inspired the S grind 59 degree option. Many will immediately recognize it as a high toe design that was popularized in the 1980s. It features a blended hosel and more traditional sole design, with 1.5 degrees less bounce than the S grind.
Are they right for me?
The goal of PING Glide Forged Pro is to provide options for different golfers. The majority of players, from low to mid-handicaps, will find a version of the S grind that works for them. Others who have specific short game needs, will find the T grind serves their purpose. Finally, with the custom grinds PING offers, fitting is a key to getting the right version of the PING Glide Forged Pro in your hands.
