PING Glide 3.0 wedge: Redesigned from grip to grind

It’s already been spotted in the bags of early adopters Bubba Watson and Cameron Champ’s bags, but today, PING’s new Glide 3.0 wedges officially hit stores.

From grip to grind, PING engineers redesigned every component of the third installment of their top wedge to create a higher-spinning, more forgiving, softer-feeling, lighter overall design. They blended a players-style look at address with game-improvement performance. Multiple sole grinds, including an Eye2 sand-wedge-inspired option, allow Golf Town Master Fitters to properly match wedges to your angle of attack and most common turf conditions.

Features & Benefits

Better Feel and Higher MOI

Using multi-material construction, something that’s becoming a staple of most golf club designs these days, PING used a 431 stainless steel head and a larger elastomer tuning port to create even better feel, a key consideration on short clubs. There’s also a new cavity design to increase the forgiveness of the wedges and expanded perimeter weighting to allow the clubs to create lower launch conditions, with more spin.

Precision-milled Grooves

Using a patent for wheel-cut grooves, the Glide 3.0 has grooves with a sharper edge radius. That means the grooves interact with the shot slightly longer at impact, creating more spin. The higher-lofted wedges feature an extra one-half groove at the bottom for added spin.

The Perfect Fit

Since there are a number of sole options in the Glide 3.0 family (standard, wide, Eye 2, thin sole), you’re going to want to go through a fitting with a Golf Town Master Fitter to find the version that suits your swing most effectively. Each wedge is matched to your swing’s angle of attack and the type of turf you typically play on.

Lighter Shaft and Grip

PING worked hard to reduce the weight of the grip and shaft, giving engineers more discretionary weight to work with. The grip on the wedges is also slightly longer, recognizing bounce on the clubs interacts differently depending on where you’re holding them. PING says the lighter overall weight helps the wedges meld with a golfer’s overall set.

Who Are They For?

With numerous sole options, and lighter shafts designed to fit these Glide 3.0 wedges into your set seamlessly, PING has created a line where there’s a wedge for basically every golfer. More forgiving, and offering a more penetrating ball flight, finding the right Glide wedge for you will be based on personal preference and your swing, which is why lining up a fitting with a Golf Town expert is essential.
