The coolest things we saw at this year’s PGA Merchandise Show

Another year, more gear.

There was about 1 million square feet of golf clubs, clothing, balls, gloves, training aids, and a couple things that made you say, “What?” at this year’s PGA Merchandise Show.

There were some big announcements at the show, like the new Pro V1 golf ball, new putters from Scotty Cameron, new footwear from FootJoy, Mizuno’s first global Tour ball, plus some of the hottest tech in the game along with trends in club and ball.

But what about those other products that are just plain cool? We teamed up with journalist Adam Stanley to talk to brands from all over the world that are doing things a little differently. Watch the video below to see all of the exciting highlights from the show or read on to check out some of the coolest things we saw at this year’s PGA Merchandise Show!

FLING GOLF

This Massachusetts-based company calls its new product, the Flingstick, “The future of the fairway.” In a myriad of different styles and colours (and they even have some grips branded as your favourite NHL team), the Flingstick comes with two different options for shafts – a composite fiber blend for the beginner and a high-tech carbon fiber for the more advanced flinger. The cross between lacrosse and golf gives interested parties the chance to skip lugging around a bag with 14 clubs. Grab a few balls, a Flingstick, and you can play at any golf course – nothing more than that is required.

PHAT SCOOTER

Phat Golf is an electric fat tire scooter company that was on Golf Digest’s Hot List for new products in 2018. Endorsed by multi-time PGA Tour winner Pat Perez, the Phat Scooter allows you to play faster, and helps reduce wear and tear on a golf course by upwards of 50 percent. There’s a spot for your golf bag and a cooler for your drink of choice in the back of the scooter, which travels up to 20 miles per hour (about 32 kilometres per hour)

DORMIE WORKSHOP

The brothers behind Dormie Workshop, based out of Halifax, have been producing some of the finest headcovers in golf for the last few years. New for 2019 from Dormie (who also make hats, alignment stick covers, belts, and more leather goods) is an Italian leather that can be printed on.

G/FORE

New to Golf Town for 2019 is G/FORE, a hip new golf brand that takes a bright approach to accessories. There are a ton of different colours for their iconic gloves (you may recognize it from the hand of Bubba Watson). Later this year, we’ll also be selling shoes and hats from the California-cool company.

BUDDY CADDIE

The world’s first animal-shaped golf bag. Available in just a panda shape for now, it’s something really fun for junior golfers. The package either comes with clubs or without, and the wheels on the rolling bag light up as it gets pulled along the turf.

VOLVIK SUPERHERO LINE

The leading golf ball brand from Korea introduces a ‘super’ new take on its colourful balls for 2019 by partnering with Marvel. For either junior golfers or that superhero-loving adult, these make for a perfect gift or addition to their golf bag. The Marvel-branded balls come with images of The Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Captain America.

SCOTTY CAMERON CUSTOM HEADCOVERS

The iconic putter-maker introduced his new line of Phantom X putters at this year’s PGA Show, but not to be missed was his collection of putter headcovers. Ranging in styles from a sushi roll to Mr. Potatohead to everything in-between in sports, culture, and design.

PUTTVIEW

This German-based technological breakthrough is helping people putt better by tracking their putts on an indoor putting green. Various cameras help to calculate an ideal putting line, which is directly projected onto the green with lasers, based on the slope of the green and putting speed. It’s a new generation of putting practice – golf’s mad scientist Bryson DeChambeau is a big-time user – and this new technology helps golfers measure and visualize their progress.

BUSHNELL PRO XE RANGEFINDER

The newest rangefinder from Bushnell (available at Golf Town later this year) adjusts for both temperature and altitude, giving you the best yardage, every time. The Pro XE has a range of more than 500 yards and is accurate to within one yard. It’s fully waterproof and has a strap attachment for your golf bag.

CHIPPO

Last year’s Best New Product at the PGA Merchandise Show, the Chippo is a combination of corn hole and golf. Users chip a lighter golf ball to a ramp with three holes carved out to try to earn points. It’s perfect for backyard barbeques or tailgate parties.

BAD BIRDIE

A new brand you can expect to see at Golf Town in 2019 is California-based Bad Birdie. Available in both men’s and women’s, their shirts are bold and brash, and they reflect the company’s tagline – they didn’t come here to lay up.
