BREAKING DOWN THE NEW CALLAWAY APEX UW & TI SUPER HYBRID

The top of your bag—from the driver through to your first iron—has never had more options. You can pull out a 3-wood and add a 7-wood. Or jettison your 5-wood and add a hybrid. Don’t love the flight of a hybrid—check out a driving iron.

Callaway has clearly picked up on the trend and is offering two new options—the Apex UW and Ti Super Hybrid—that provide different takes on the hybrid. Yep, the hybrid is still king when it comes to that gap between your woods and your irons, and Callaway is offering different takes on what a hybrid can do for you.

Apex UW

So what is a “utility wood?” This is a hybrid with fairway wood characteristics. Callaway blends the fairway wood with a hybrid, something we’ve seen before, but not in recent years. The result is a mix of the body shape of a fairway wood and a hybrid creating a club that is larger than most hybrids.

Key technology

Tungsten Speed Wave

With 41 grams of tungsten in the club, engineers moved mass low and forward, increasing speed and making the ball launch higher, even on strikes low on the face.

Sole Design

Recognizing this is a club that’ll be used by players off the tee and through turf, Callaway designed the sole to reduce turf interaction.

Carbon Crown

Carbon is king these days, and you’ll find it here, creating better launch conditions and spin control.

Apex Ti Super Hybrid

What makes this “super?” In the case of the Ti Super Hybrid, the main difference is size. For a considerable amount of time, engineers recognized size increased confidence, and Callaway is tapping into that with this club. Let’s be clear—this is a super-sized hybrid, designed to instill confidence in players who don’t love their 3-wood.

Key technology

Titanium face

Bigger means stronger, and Callaway wants its Ti Super Hybrid to offer great ball speeds. With that in mind, engineers used a high-strength titanium face for great flexing and energy transfer.

Step sole

Recognizing this is a club that will be used off the tee and through the fairway and rough, Callaway created a sole design that provides cleaner contact whether you’ve found the short grass or are recovering from a wayward shot.

Head

The head is bigger with a deeper face, allowing for a high-launch, controlled shot.

Is it for me?

Do you struggle with your fairway woods, but don’t feel comfortable with a traditional hybrid? This might help you generate more confidence—and find more fairways and greens.
