Jamie Sadock takes inspiration from real life for cutting edge golf clothing

Jamie Sadock clothing line is capturing the imagination of golfers through innovative designs and fabrics

“There are no rules.”

That’s designer Jamie Sadock’s perspective on creating golf apparel. “Every time I open my eyes, or for that matter close them, I have inspiration from many avenues,” she says. “Influences can be anything from architecture to art to a horse’s mane.”

Golf clothing has often been confined by the restrictions and rules of the game. Sadock’s perspective is to engage more elements that might have been limited in the past. That means looks that embrace bold patterns, and pants that use zippers in inventive and interesting ways. Capris are bold and sporty, while tops use modern prints that give the line a decidedly modern appearance.

“I’m thrilled to see some of the clothing rules be a bit more relaxed, particularly regarding the length of golf skorts,” Sadock notes. “My perspective is different and elegant. [Golfers] don’t need me to do more stripes!”

Some of the inspiration for the line comes from a rock ’n sensibility, says Sadock, pointing out the line appeals to those who embrace the fact that, regardless of age, their apparel is representative of their personality.

“My philosophy is that regardless of age, inside is an 18-year old,” she says. “Your youth and your spirit don’t age—just the outward body. You don’t lose those feelings and emotions or sense of vitality because you’re a little bit older than yesterday. Your body can age, your waist may increase, but not your soul or your youthfulness, nor your sense of what you like.”

The line is progressive in another way as well—it embraces the concerns of sun exposure. The line often offers UPF sun protection, an important element for the designer stemming from her personal experience.

“Everyone knows someone who has had a bout—or worse—with breast cancer or, as I did, skin cancer,” she says. “Over the years, there’s finally growing awareness and kids have been taught to start caring about this from the age of three.” That experience worked its way into her designs.

“I developed a fabric that is the lightest possible fabric in the world with built-in sun protection that isn’t temporary,” she says. “It’s like wearing air, but protects people without them having to slather sunscreen on and is 30 SPF for solids and 50 SPF for prints.”

It also serves a dual purpose.
