Last year, FootJoy announced its Flex line, capturing the market for a sports-based shoe that was light and comfortable. It captured a lot of attention when it came out and gained popularity as the year progressed. In fact, it was so popular with golfers looking for an alternative to the traditional golf shoe, that FootJoy has announced a new version—Flex XP.
“This is a comfortable and stable shoe that’s worn by the likes of Davis Love,” says Richard Fryer, FootJoy’s director of footwear product management. “This is a shoe that really finds the sweet spot between our PRO SL and the Tour X.”
The goal of the Flex XP is to offer versatility and comfort, making it the ideal shoe for the golfer who wants to put on a pair as they hit the car, play a round, and not have to take them off after they are done walking 18 holes.
Here’s a few reasons you might consider Flex XP as your next pair of golf shoes.
Waterproof
While the shoe still hits the keys of the initial version—lightweight with a sports aesthetic—there’s a big change in this version, and that’s waterproofing with a one-year warranty. Fryer says FootJoy saw that as a key to the product reaching a wider golfing audience.
Comfort
The Flex XP is a lightweight shoe that makes walking 18 a breeze, but there’s a lot of tech used to deliver that comfort. The shoe is built around an EVA fitbed to ensure a sock-like fit. There’s no slipping here.
Spikeless
There are no removable spikes in Flex XP. Instead the shoe uses a proprietary Versa-Trax spikeless outsole and offers three forms of traction. The first is “golf performance traction,” which is the pointy traction that is placed where the foot interacts with the turf. The second is off-course traction, so the shoe doesn’t slip on surfaces other than grass, and finally, a hybrid traction that is a mix of on and off-course elements.
Is FootJoy Flex XP for you?
There’s hardly a golfer that doesn’t appreciate a lightweight shoe and also want the best of everything—great traction, waterproofing, and aesthetics. In that regard, FootJoy Flex XP hits the mark, especially with the addition of waterproofing. If you like a running shoe style, and the comfort of a spikeless shoe, Flex XP is worth trying on.
