In celebration of SCOREGolf’s Top 59 Public Golf Courses Ranking, we recently hosted Canada’s Top 59 Golf Giveaway, where we gave away a foursome to every course on the list! With thousands of entries from coast-to-coast, we want to thank everyone that entered and congratulate all of our winners.

When SCOREGolf first launched its Top List in 2013, they chose 59 to coincide with golf’s coveted score, which had been carded at the game’s highest levels only a few times. Despite Jim Furyk coming along and bettering the score when he shot a 58 in 2016, the list remains the same size this year.

Using a rating scale that measures beauty, strategy, challenge, design, conditioning, Par 3s, Par 4s, Par 5s and fun factor, below is the Top 59 Public Golf Courses in Canada in 2017.

49. Dundarave

Visually, Dundarave is a stunner thanks to its red-sand bunkering, tall trees and ever-present Brudenell River, which serves as a backdrop to some of the course’s finest holes. The par-4 eighth, with a green nearly kissing the water, is its signature.

48. Shadow Mountain

A relative newcomer to the Canadian golf course scene, Shadow Mountain, in the interior of British Columbia, has delighted golfers since opening in 2009. With massive elevation drops, particularly on the 15th and 17th holes, great vistas are everywhere.

Winner: Karen Christensen

47. Fairview Mountain

Located in the heart of B.C.’s wine country, Fairview Mountain delights the palates of all golfers who play there. Its rolling terrain through the desert mountain landscape offers orchard views throughout, while its putting surfaces are known to be among the purest in the province.

Winner: Chris Gauthier

46. Kawartha

Previously a private club, the Stanley Thompson-designed Kawartha G&CC has welcomed the public onto its fairways in recent years to enjoy one of the acclaimed architect’s many gems. On wonderful terrain in the heart of Peterborough, it’s classic country-club-style golf open to everyone.

Winner: Steve Alderman

45. Heritage Pointe — Desert, Heritage Course

Calgary is a golf-mad city and no public facility satiates the hungry crowd better than Heritage Pointe, which offers 27 holes and all the amenities of a private club. Another design by Ron Garl, it’s been the best in the city for years.

Winner: Wayne Thompson

44. Eagle Ranch

Eagle Ranch Resort is a great escape both for B.C. natives and Albertans crossing over the border and into the Columbia Valley for a weekend getaway. With holes perched along ancient bluffs overlooking the Columbia River, Eagle Ranch is pure paradise.

Winner: Tom Janzen

43. Le Diable

Marked by massive red-sand bunkers, Le Diable — The Devil — is one of several courses in Quebec’s popular Mont Tremblant area. It was designed by the duo of Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry and was the site of Mike Weir’s Skins Game victory in 1999 over John Daly, David Duval and Fred Couples.

Winner: Paul Sobottka

42. Wolf Creek — Old Course

Rod Whitman gained national fame for his wonderful work at Cabot Links, but the first course for the Ponoka native was right in his hometown: Wolf Creek. He’s since added another nine there to create two layouts.

Winner: Andrew Cribbs

41. Bear Mountain — Mountain Course

It doesn’t get more exhilarating when it comes to golf than the Mountain Course at Bear Mountain Resort, a rollicking layout that Jack Nicklaus did with his son, Steve. Several holes offer views of Victoria’s skyline in the distance.

Winner: Dave Hoff

40. Glen Abbey

It may have slid down SCOREGolf’s course rankings in recent years, but Glen Abbey remains among the country’s most famous golf courses as the longtime host of the RBC Canadian Open and therefore one of the most coveted for golf enthusiasts to play.

Winner: Tad Jamieson
