Top 59-50 Courses: Top 59 Canadian Golf Course Countdown

In celebration of SCOREGolf’s Top 59 Public Golf Courses Ranking, we recently hosted Canada’s Top 59 Golf Giveaway, where we gave away a foursome to every course on the list! With thousands of entries from coast-to-coast, we want to thank everyone that entered and congratulate all of our winners.

When SCOREGolf first launched its Top List in 2013, they chose 59 to coincide with golf’s coveted score, which had been carded at the game’s highest levels only a few times. Despite Jim Furyk coming along and bettering the score when he shot a 58 in 2016, the list remains the same size this year.

Using a rating scale that measures beauty, strategy, challenge, design, conditioning, Par 3s, Par 4s, Par 5s and fun factor, below is the Top 59 Public Golf Courses in Canada in 2017.

59-50 of SCOREGolf‘s Top 59 Canadian Public Courses

59. Fox Creek

Fox Creek Golf Club
Dieppe, New Brunswick

A Graham Cooke creation, Fox Creek has long been considered New Brunswick’s best public golf course thanks to its wonderfully manicured, rolling fairways that dip and dive through various hazards and stands of tall trees.

Winner: Justin Willness

58. Ambassador

Ambassador Golf Club
Windsor, Ontario

Though he had to sculpt Ambassador out of relatively flat land, Thomas McBroom showed great restraint in keeping the course playable for all thanks to its wide fairways and on-grade greens. Ambassador, with a peak rate of $52, ranks as the best value in Canada, according to SCOREGolf.

Winner: Josh DeMattos

57. Tarandowah

Tarandowah Golfers Club
Avon, Ontario

English architect Martin Hawtree shocked southwestern Ontario golfers when he built an incredible, links-style course out of farmland near London. In fact, outside of Cabot Links, some consider Tarandowah to be the best links interpretation in Canada.

Winner: Bob Therault

56. Salmon Arm

Salmon Arm Golf Club
Salmon Arm, British Columbia

Though it was originally built in 1928, Les Furber has greatly enhanced Salmon Arm over the years to make an already excellent course even better. On billowing property in the seclusion of interior B.C., it’s a fun adventure.

Winner: Eli Neapetung

55. The Links at Brunello

The Links at Brunello
Timberlea, Nova Scotia

One of a few new golf courses to have opened in the last few years, Tom McBroom’s Links at Brunello immediately impressed visitors thanks to some breathtaking tee shots and its variety of holes. A busy hub outside of Halifax, it’s been a big draw for juniors.

Winner: Jason Dwerdfeger

54. Wooden Sticks

Wooden Sticks Golf Club
Uxbridge, Ontario

Wooden Sticks gained immediate acclaim upon opening in 2000 for its replica holes in homage to such famed courses as St. Andrews, Augusta National, Oakmont and TPC Sawgrass. However, Ron Garl’s original frames may be the best on the property.

Winner: Tim Parks

53. Lora Bay

Lora Bay
Thornbury, Ontario

A pair of Toms — Canadian architect McBroom and major winner Lehman — created Lora Bay near Collingwood, Ontario. It features artistic bunkering and some excellent holes overlooking gorgeous Georgian Bay.

Winner: Mark William MacDougall

52. Grand Niagara

Grand Niagara Golf Club
Niagara Falls, Ontario

One of only two original Rees Jones designs in Canada, Grand Niagara wows golfers with its conditioning, contours and intricate green complexes. Though filled with mostly open holes, it changes pace for a few holes when it meanders through a majestic forest.

Winner: Mike Johnson

51. Silvertip

Silvertip Golf Course
Canmore, Alberta

Few courses, if any, offer the mountain vistas that Silvertip does. A rollercoaster ride through the Alberta Rockies, the course is as dramatic as it gets in this country with the Three Sisters Mountain Peaks towering high above you. Brace for the thrill and enjoy the ride.

Winner: Bryan Ziegler

50. Storey Creek

Storey Creek
Campbell River, British Columbia

Les Furber created a Vancouver Island paradise when he built Storey Creek, a course known for its secluded holes cut through old forest growth. Many consider it Furber’s best, and most underappreciated, design.

Winner: Jake Greening
