More rounds were played in Canada last year than at any other time in history. And that’s great. But … (doesn’t it always seem like there’s a but?) … but … if the game is to continue to grow, then it’s vital to get more Women teeing off.
That was the push behind Golf Town’s Women’s Golf Day event held on Thursday, July 15th at Mill Run Golf Club in Uxbridge, Ontario.
As part of our #ComeOutAndPlay campaign, Lisa Longball one of our Team Golf Town Athletes, took to social and invited her Greater Toronto Area (GTA) followers to sign up to come out and play and bring a friend out for a free day of golf and swag to celebrate women in the game.
Anne Marie Jessop and her friend jumped at the chance to tee it up together.
“It’s a great game, a great way to meet people. A lot of fun. My husband got me golfing so now he stays home and I go golfing. I can go out with my friends. Even if you don’t have a foursome you can go out and play with anyone.”
Not surprisingly, the tee sheet filled up quickly with 240 golfers of all skill levels happy to hit the links to make some new golfing memories. Camaraderie and good times mattered far more than the scorecard. As it should be.
When Kira Mochizuki moved to the Toronto area, she was off in the middle of the week and soon rediscovered the game.
“I needed something to do in the summer. I’d go to the driving range and just hit balls. And then I met a golf friend! And now we golf all the time.”
Priscilla and Grace were having a blast and Grace is a big advocate of the game saying it helps bring families closer together, especially hers.
“I love this game because growing up we were introduced to a lot of different sports but my dad’s real passion is golf. It was a great chance for us to bond together as a family and last year my mom got into golf during Covid. Now golf gives us a great chance to spend quality time with our parents.”
This is just the first of a number of Golf Town initiatives to help Canadians come out and play this summer. If you haven’t already done so, sign up for our leaderboard emails and follow us on our social channels to stay up to date with upcoming events.
