45-31 of SCOREGolf‘s Top 59 Canadian Public Golf Courses
45. Wildstone Golf Course
The only Gary Player Design course in Canada, Wildstone’s fairways are framed by tall pine trees while golden fescue and white-sand bunkers provide brilliant colour contrasts.
44. Fox Harb’r
This Graham Cooke design, which is set to be redone by Tom McBroom and Doug Carrick, features a back-nine stretch of oceanside holes, while the front nine is a parkland-style design through wooded areas and over wetlands.
43. Seguin Valley Golf Club
A series of secluded holes cutting through forest and rocky outcroppings are highlighted by the par-3 seventh at Seguin Valley. The hole spans McCrae Lake and features a 180-yard bridge connecting tee deck and green.
42. Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu – St. Laurent, Richelieu
Sitting high above the St. Lawrence River and featuring some fantastic plummeting holes that will get your heart racing, Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu is worth the 90-minute drive from Quebec City.
41. The Nest Golf Club at Friday Harbour
Doug Carrick is all about width and angles off the tee and green surrounds that keep you on your toes. The Nest at Friday Harbour is exactly that, along with its terrific contouring and conditioning.
40. Tarandowah Golf Club
It’s nice to see Tarandowah getting such love, moving up several spots on this year’s list. The Martin Hawtree links-style course on former farmland outside London, Ont., is terrific, and is one of Canada’s best values.
39. Dundarave Golf Course
A visual stunner thanks to its red-sand bunkering, tall trees and ever-present Brudenell River, Dundarave is a Prince Edward Island treat with a par-4 eighth hole that’s one of Canada’s best.
38. Shadow Mountain Golf Course
Shadow Mountain is marked by massive elevation drops, especially on the 15th and 17th holes, nicknamed The Drive and The Monster respectively. This Cranbrook, B.C., course is really, really fun.
37. Kananaskis Country Golf Course – Mt. Lorette
Kananaskis Country is in full swing again, delighting golfers far and wide. The Mt. Lorette course may be less spectacular than its sister track, but nonetheless is a mountain delight.
36. Wolf Creek Golf Resort – Old
Marked by native fescue areas, pot bunkers and inviting greens that encourage the ball be bounced onto them, the Old Course at Wolf Creek is a great test of restraint and playing smart.
35. Predator Ridge – Predator Course
The original course at the Predator Ridge Resort in B.C.’s Okanagan Valley, the Predator, designed by Les Furber, is an exciting ride. It’s heavy on elevation changes, windswept fescue areas, pot bunkers and multi-tiered greens.
34. Copper Point – The Point
The Point Course at Copper Point is Gary Browning/Wade Horrocks collaboration that features wide fairways and plenty of elevation changes through lovely forested terrain.
33. Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club
Built into the slopes of the Coast Mountain Range in Whistler, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler is marked by massive elevation changes and nature’s accents — creeks, tall Douglas firs and rocky outcroppings.
32. Bear Mountain – Valley Course
Jack and Steve Nicklaus crafted a number of spectacular holes in a valley terrain that is anything but flat on Bear Mountain’s Valley Course. Highlights include the par-3 14th, with its tee-to-green waste bunker, and the risk-reward par-5 15th.
31. Eagle Ranch
With holes perched along ancient bluffs overlooking the Columbia River and Lake Windermere, Eagle Ranch is pure paradise and continues to place well in our public course ranking.
Check back next Monday, July 26th as we continue our countdown of SCOREGolf’s Top 59 Canadian Public Golf Courses numbers 30-16.
