TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: GET READY FOR THE CPKC WOMEN’S OPEN

The LPGA Tour returns to Canada for its annual stop, the CPKC Women’s Open.

Returning champions Lydia Ko, Meghan Khang, and Golf Town Ambassador Brooke Henderson headline the field that will tee off at Earl Grey Golf Club – a first-time host venue, about 15 minutes from downtown Calgary.

Brooke, of course, won the event in 2018. She is one of 15 Canadians who are set to tee it up.

Ko is a three-time winner of the event and is just one point shy of earning her way into the LPGA Hall of Fame.

Khang defeated Jin Young Ko in a playoff last year in Vancouver to win for the first time on the LPGA Tour. There will be six past CPKC Women’s Open champions teeing it up at Earl Grey.

“I love coming to Canada every year. I don’t think I’ve ever skipped this event and I don’t think I’m going to plan to ever even more now,” Khang said last year.

Other notables who are set to tee it up include world No. 2 Lilia Vu, No. 7 Hannah Green – who has won twice already this season – and No. 9 Rose Zhang.

Former world No. 1 Minjee Lee is also in the field along with Lexi Thompson, who will compete in her 11th and final CPKC Women’s Open after she announced she would be retiring from a full-time competitive schedule on the LPGA Tour at the end of 2024.

Six of the top 10 in the Race to CME Globe season standings and 73 of the top 100 will play in Calgary, along with 23 Olympians.

This marks the seventh time the province of Alberta will host the CPKC Women’s Open and the first time since 2016. The field will be competing for a $2.6 million (USD) purse with the winner taking home $390,000.

There will be two final exemptions announced at a later date, while the final qualifier is set for Monday July 22 at Mickelson National Golf Club.

The CPKC Women’s Open, which has won ‘Tournament of the Year’ at the LPGA Tour’s year-end awards in both 2022 and 2023, is thrilled to welcome the Golf Town Players Tour Truck to Earl Grey this year.

This landmark initiative in Canada will provide female golfers the opportunity to play at their highest level, with a central area on-site that provides access to elevated professional fitting and club services – including Foresight launch monitor rentals.

“Golf Town is leading the charge in promoting equality and growth in women’s golf across Canada, and I couldn’t be more excited for myself and my fellow players to have access to the Players Tour Truck at this year’s CPKC Women’s Open,” said Brooke Henderson.

Between the great field, the top-notch course, and the Brooke Brigade cheering loud and proud, it should be another awesome week at the CPKC Women’s Open.
