Just in time for the holiday season, the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour have given golf fans a big-time gift!
For the first time in over two decades there is set to be a mixed-team event on both of the Tour’s schedule as the Grant Thornton Invitational will tee off Dec. 4 in Naples, Fla. at the Tiburón Golf Club.
Sixteen women and sixteen men will play together and compete for a $4-million purse.
Can’t wait to partner up with Tony Finau at the inaugural Grant Thornton Invitational this December to take on fellow GT Ambassadors Rickie Fowler and Jess Korda along with other top talent across the PGA TOUR and LPGA in this new mixed team event! pic.twitter.com/MoXag2FXLF

Nelly Korda and Tony Finau along with Jessica Korda and Rickie Fowler were named as the first two teams.
Excited to share that I’m teaming up with @Thejessicakorda for the inaugural Grant Thornton Invitational this December to play against top players from both the @PGATOUR and @LPGA! Learn more at https://t.co/iOealOd4Fe pic.twitter.com/UG2HXAWZzz

“The Grant Thornton Invitational really is about being inclusive and showing people that golf can be accessible for everyone, no matter what way you play,” said Nelly Korda. “This is going to be the perfect opportunity for me to do something important in helping to grow the game and inspire the next generation.”
The Grant Thornton Invitational will replace the QBE Shootout. The addition of a mixed event to the calendar has “been a priority” according to PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan.
Korda teed it up at the QBE Shootout last year and her play was widely recognized by some of the PGA Tour’s top golfers as truly incredible. Kevin Kisner, a multi-time winner, even called her “The Tiger Woods of the LPGA Tour.” She finished tied for fifth with her partner Denny McCarthy, while Lexi Thompson finished tied for 10th with partner Maverick McNealy.
The last time the two tours held an annual mixed-team competition was in 1999. John Daly and Laura Davies won the final edition of the JCPenney Classic.
“PGA Tour athletes playing alongside the best athletes from the LPGA Tour is going to be incredible for our fans,” Finau said. “They’ve been wanting something like this for a long time. Our fans deserve it and seeing Grant Thornton stepping up to help the PGA TOUR and LPGA Tour put together this tournament, I think is very special.”
Added LPGA Tour commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan: “This is an important step forward for golf, women’s golf, and the LPGA. We’re incredibly grateful for the leadership of our partners at the PGA Tour and Grant Thornton, and we look forward to producing a best-in-class event that inspires, elevates, and advances opportunities for golfers around the globe.”
Tiburón Golf Club also hosts the LPGA Tour’s season finale, the CME Group Tour Championship.
While there have been only two teams announced so far, we can’t help but get excited about a top-ranked Canadian pairing featuring Golf Town Athlete Brooke Henderson and Corey Conners. Conners has played the QBE Shootout the last two years, while Brooke has a sunny home base in the Naples area. Seeing the Canadian flag fly on this leaderboard would be a great way to end the year!
Additional formal details are still in development, but the three-day tournament will be televised on both NBC and Golf Channel.
Looking forward to this mixed event. Excellent idea.
Good luck Brook and Corey in this tournament and to both of you through out the year no matter where you play
