The LPGA Tour has announced its 2024 schedule and it represents a drastic increase in prize money for the best in the world.
The total purse for golfers on the LPGA Tour next year will be north of $118 million (U.S.), the most ever. That’s also an increase of 69 percent from just three years ago.
Announced Wednesday, the CME Group Tour Championship – the LPGA Tour’s season finale – will boast a purse of $11 million, with $4 million going to the winner and $1 million for second. There is only one event on the PGA Tour that has a first-place prize of higher than $4 million – The Players Championship.
“The 2024 LPGA Tour schedule reflects our historic growth,” said LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan.
The CPKC Women’s Open is one of 10 tournaments that have announced elevated purses for 2024 and it is expected that even more tournaments will follow suit through the year – especially the major championships.
Canada’s lone LPGA Tour stop was named “Tournament of the Year” for the second year in a row at the year-end tournament awards at the CME Group Tour Championship.
It also won “Best Volunteer Initiative” and “Best Sponsor Activation” at the year-end awards. Part of the best sponsor effort was the Brooke Brigade Fan Zone!
Next year’s CPKC Women’s Open will take place at Calgary’s Earl Grey Golf Club July 25-28. It also marks the 50th anniversary of the CPKC Women’s Open and expect plenty of special announcements over the coming months that celebrates the history of the event.
The LPGA Tour’s schedule will include 35 events (33 official) with three brand-new tournaments announced for 2024 – the LPGA Drive On Championship in Bradenton, Fla. (January), the Arizona Championship presented by JTBC (March), and the FM Global Championship near Boston (September).
The five major championships will visit some familiar sites and some new sites.
Both the Chevron Championship (The Club at Carlton Woods) and the Amundi Evian Championship (Evian Resort Golf Club) will return to their usual host courses. The U.S. Women’s Open (May 30-June 2) will take place at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania. The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship returns to Sahalee Country Club near Seattle, the home of Golf Town Athlete Brooke Henderson’s maiden major triumph in 2016.
The AIG Women’s Open (Aug. 22-25) will head to the storied Old Course at St Andrews.
“With new events and improved geographic flow, enhancing the athlete experience, our global reach and competitiveness have never been stronger. As we embark on this season, we celebrate the remarkable journey of women’s golf, anticipating thrilling competition and unforgettable moments for fans worldwide,” Marcoux Samaan said.
The best female golfers on the planet will also have an opportunity to represent their countries on two occasions in 2024.
The Summer Olympics are back next year, taking place at Le Golf National in Paris, France. Brooke will be representing Canada once again, while the second Canadian on the women’s side remains TBD.
There will also be another Solheim Cup competition, but this time on U.S. soil. Team Europe retained the cup after a 14-14 draw this year in Spain. The 2024 Solheim Cup will take place at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia Sept. 13-15. After being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was decided to be played in back-to-back years so then it could be played in ‘even’ years moving forward, with the Ryder Cup already being contested in the ‘odd’ years.
The season will once again conclude at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida where the aforementioned $4-million first-place prize will be up for grabs. The LPGA Tour and the PGA Tour will again co-host the Grant Thornton Invitational Dec. 13-15 to put a bow on the golfing year.
Next year will mark an exciting time for women’s golf with the LPGA Tour playing for more money than ever before!
