First it was Tiger versus Phil, then quarterbacks Tom Brady and Peyton Manning made the sequel a foursome and we got the battle of the past and present NBA superstar Charles Barkley & Steph Curry. This time around, we have another battle of the quarterbacks, seven-time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady reunited with World Golf Hall of Famer and current PGA Champion Phil Mickelson as they take on reigning NFL league MVP Aaron Rodgers and newcomer to Capital One’s The Match Bryson DeChambeau.
As was the case with previous installments, the upcoming event will have a central philanthropic component, raising money and awareness to Feeding America, among additional charitable beneficiaries. The match will take place on Tuesday, July 6th, at 5 p.m. ET, and will be played at The Reserve at Moonlight Basin in Big Sky, Montana.
As was evident during the previous three matches, and in the lead up to this highly anticipated fourth match, the banter and competitive chirping can be more entertaining than the golf at times, offering viewers a rare inside-the-ropes seat to watch four sporting legends battle it out.
DeChambeau who is known for his long booming drives, is not going to let another bomber, Mickelson show him up in the best aspect of his golf game. In an interview with Steve DiMeglio of Golfweek DeChambeau said there is no way Mickelson outdrives him at The Match.
Brady who showed everyone during his last match that he in fact is human, looking like a lot of us weekend warriors, has been working on his putting and trash talk.
The reunited team of Mickelson and Brady will be gearing up to upset the favourites of DeChambeau and Rodgers.
The format will be a modified alternate shot match play, with each player hitting a tee shot and teams deciding whose ball to put into play. The match will be aired on TNT, will once again feature unprecedented access with all players having open mics throughout the entire competition, including the capability to communicate directly with other golfers and the broadcast commentators. More information on the live production, including the commentator team, will be shared leading up to the event.
