The World No. 1 player, with six skins on the line, hit it close on the final tiebreaker hole, which played as a closest to the pin contest to decide the match.

“It’s been awesome,” McIlroy said. “It was nice to get back on the golf course and get back to some sense of normalcy.”

McIlroy was paired with Dustin Johnson, going head-to-head in a skins match with Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff. The match, promoted by TaylorMade as a Covid-19 fundraiser, saw McIlroy and Johnson win 11 skins and $1.85-million, against seven skins and $1.15-million for Fowler and Wolff.

“It’s incredible what we did,” Johnson said. “Obviously it’s very nice to be a part of something so cool. Just to get back out and play golf again, a little bit competitive, it was a lot of fun.”

McIlroy finished the match by proposing an “air five” in place of the standard high-five, an indication that while live golf is being played once again, not everything is back to normal.

Seminole—Generally considered among the top courses in the world, Seminole is barely known to many given its super-exclusive nature. The telecast spent a lot of time showcasing the course’s history, its connection to Ben Hogan, who used it to warm up for the Masters, and the genius design by Donald Ross.

Bombs—Sure, we’ve never heard of a long drive contest where the winner doesn’t have to find the fairway, but that doesn’t mean the big drives of McIlroy, Johnson, and particularly Wolff, weren’t entertaining. Wolff, one of the game’s newest stars, won both long drive contests on the second and 14th hole, adding $450,000 in charitable donations.

Charity:

With various companies and viewers kicking in cash (viewer donations were more than $1-million), all told more than $5.5-million was raised for the two main beneficiaries, the American Nurses’ Foundation and the CDC Foundation.
