Sung Hyun Park wins KPMG Women’s PGA Championship on second playoff hole

The LPGA’s third major of the season once again ended in a dramatic playoff that included Nasa Hataoka, So Yeon Ryu, and eventual champion Sung Hyun Park, who won with birdie on the second playoff hole.

It was the second major for the young Korean, who is coming off of a big rookie season. Last year, Park won the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open and the CP Women’s Open.  She went on to also win the 2017 Rookie of the Year award, Rolex Player of the Year (a title she shared with So Yeon Ryu) and the 2017 Money Title.

Golf Town athlete Brooke Henderson shot a final round 74 on Canada Day Sunday to finish in a tie for 6th at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship taking place at Kemper Lakes Golf Club in Kildeer, Illinois. This marked her third-straight top ten in the event after finishing solo second last year and winning the event in 2016.

After starting the day three shots behind third-round leader So Yeon Ryu, Brooke stumbled early, making three bogeys in her first six holes. The 20-year-old went on to finish four strokes out of the playoff.

Fellow Canadian Maude-Aimee Leblanc wrapped up her KPMG Women’s PGA Championship with a final round 71 (-1). Leblanc put up five birdies against four bogeys to move her into a tie for 31st.

Orangeville, Ontario’s Brittany Marchand capped off her week with a final round 73 (+1), which moved her into a tie for 60th. Marchand, who celebrated her 26th birthday on Wednesday, had a memorable week at the KPMG, making a hole-in-one during the first round and winning a car in the process.

The final Canadian to make the cut was Alena Sharp, who also fired a 73 (+1) on Sunday to finish in a tie for 68th.

Brooke and her fellow Canadians will now look ahead to the rest of the season, with the LPGA schedule continuing next week at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in Wisconsin.
