After nearly two years of struggling with injuries, Canadian golf star Graham DeLaet is returning to the PGA Tour this week at the Shriners Hospital for Children Open.

“It’s nice seeing all the faces,” DeLaet, sporting a full thick beard, told a reporter from the Toronto Sun this week. “Everyone seems to be pretty happy to see me. I didn’t really actually realize how much I missed it until I got back out here.”

DeLaet made 175 career PGA Tour starts, racking up $11.2 million in earnings. He represented Canada at the 2016 Olympics, has four professional wins. He’s struggled to return from a significant surgery on a nagging back injury has kept the former Presidents Cup player off the tour since 2017. DeLaet, who finished the 2013 season at 36 in the world, has since slipped to 2,046 after the injury slowed his career. DeLaet’s return to golf has been rumoured for some time; he was expected to start his comeback on the Korn Ferry Tour, but tightness in his back kept him out of the June tournament. He was registered to play on the PGA Tour last week, but didn’t start in the event.

Well known for his bushy beard, love of craft beer, and his ability as a ball striker with few peers, the big-hitting golfer was the best Canadian in the sport in 2013 and 2014, and played on the 2013 Presidents Cup team. He also represented Canada at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, alongside Brantford’s David Hearn.

Welcome back, DeLaet!
