It’s been quite the summertime stretch for Brooke and Brittany Henderson as the pair have followed through on a globetrotting schedule. And this week marks the third time that Brooke, with Brittany alongside, will represent Canada at the Olympics!
While this is a monumental part of the LPGA Tour, there is still one major left to go along with the ever-important Race to CME Globe and CME Group Tour Championship at the end of the year.
For Brittany Henderson, she’s been thrilled to see Brooke’s consistent success. Brooke already has seven top-10 finishes so far this season, including a tie for eighth at the CPKC Women’s Open in front of the Brooke Brigade in Calgary. This year’s CPKC Women’s Open even set an all-time attendance record!
“Rest is the top priority right now,” Brittany says. “You’ve been playing so much that you pretty much know the state of your game at this point. There are a few things here and there that you may tweak or work on, but I think that rest is the most important thing – both physical and mental!”
The reason why the duo are heading across the pond, however, is an exciting one, with Brooke – along with Alena Sharp – competing in the Olympic golf competition at Le Golf National, just outside of Paris.
“We feel like we try to represent Canada every week we’re out playing but this is a different feel – where you’re part of a team that represents Canada. And that’s a pretty cool thing to be part of.”
Brittany says the pair are set to arrive a couple days before the Wednesday kick-off from Canada after a week of well-deserved rest after the CPKC Women’s Open. Since the golf course is about an hour away from downtown Paris it might be tough to get to the main village but their play for Sunday is to be able to watch the men’s final round. That way they can see the course and watch the men play. They are hopeful at some point, though, to watch other events and visit with the other athletes.
Brooke and Alena are, however, planning to walk in the closing ceremonies.
The women’s golf competition will take place on the same venue as the men, Le Golf National, which is a former Ryder Cup host venue along with an annual course on the DP World Tour.
“We know it’s a top-notch course when it’s held events like that. You know it’s going to be tough. You know it’s going to be a great challenge, great condition, and well looked after,” Brittany says. “In Rio, they just built the course for the event. No one knew much about it. It’s exciting to get onto a well known golf course like this!”
Despite the steady effort so far on the LPGA Tour – Brooke is sixth in greens in regulation and eighth in scoring average – Brooke does not yet have a victory. Winning a medal would be an amazing accomplishment!
But there is also lots more on the LPGA Tour calendar over the coming weeks, including the AIG Women’s Open at the Old Course at St. Andrews.
Brittany says they are super excited about getting to play at the Home of Golf for the final major of 2024.
“As a golfer, you hope you will be able to play there once in your life. But now we get to play there for a whole week. For a major championship. That’s pretty neat,” Brittany says. “It’s one of those bucket-list things you hope you can do during your career.”
The busy summer continues for Brittany and Brooke Henderson, and here’s hoping they’ll head into fall with some hardware – either a trophy on their shelf or a medal around their neck!
Great to hear from Brittany’s perspective on what has been happening with Brooke Henderson on the LPGA. Also what to expect at the Olympics and Playing the Old Course!
Brooke has represented Canada very well while on the LPGA and she will do the same while at the Olympics. Congratulations to both of you and wishing you continued success and happiness.
