Welcome back to another installment of On the Bag with Brittany!
We’re thrilled to give you an inside look on how Brittany and Brooke Henderson travel the world, prepare for the biggest events on the LPGA Tour, and more.
The summertime stretch on the LPGA Tour is firmly underway and the CPKC Women’s Open is right around the corner.
We’ll have a few more chats with Brittany as the year goes on. Stay tuned!
With the major-championship season now in the rearview mirror for Brooke and Brittany Henderson, the CPKC Women’s Open is straight ahead – which, to the sisters from Smiths Falls, might as well be a major.
There is still lots of golf left to be played in 2025 and Golf Town Athlete Brooke Henderson has said she feels close with her game for the last few weeks. In fact, at the AIG Women’s Open she said her ball-striking had felt the best it had almost all year.
There were a couple of tough missed cuts through the summertime stretch at both the U.S. Women’s Open and the AIG Women’s Open, however, Brittany says the pair has been able to put into practice a good gameplan to move on.
“You can’t linger on it. At the end of the day if you miss the cut by one shot, you can look back and there were so many opportunities where you could go, ‘Well, I could have saved it on this hole or this hole or this hole.’ There are so many areas where you could shave one shot so it’s important not to dwell on it,” she explains. “There is always the next thing, and you can start gearing up for that with more determination and intensity. No one likes the feeling of a missed cut – it’s a bad feeling. In some ways it can fire you up a bit more and make you more determined for next time. We’ll take that mentality as opposed to getting down about it!”
Just like so many other Canadians – and not just some of the world’s best golfers! – Brittany and Brooke enjoyed some summer vacation time over the last while between big weeks on the LPGA Tour. Whether it was a trip with family or a visit home, sometimes a summer holiday can do wonders, both physically and mentally, no matter your career.
Brittany – who of course, is hauling the bag through the sticky summertime heat – admits that this part of the season is a “gruelling” one, especially considering the high level of tournaments all in a row. In fact, in a five-week span, Brooke played in three major championships.
“There are a lot of majors and the CPKC Women’s Open which, in our mind, is a major as well. This stretch is really intense, and you don’t get much of a break,” Brittany says. “But when you get a week off it’s really important to take a day or even a half day to try to get that rejuvenated energy back! You want to come in, ideally, feeling fresh and ready and excited.”
Brittany explains one thing she and Brooke have taken to doing through this summer when appropriate is practicing gratitude. It is, at the end of the day, a very cool job! Brittany says part of the recovery is re-focusing on the mental attitude of being grateful for each week and the opportunity to tee it up on great courses and against some of the best in the world every week.
“Different people have different ways of getting to that positive mental spot, but for us a day here and there of reflection, like a day at the lake – it goes a long way,” Brittany says.
A hearty stretch of golf is ahead through August and into the fall. Brooke has guaranteed herself a spot on the World Team at the Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown alongside Charley Hull and Lydia Ko – with the team matches to take place in South Korea in October and will be fighting for a spot at the CME Group Tour Championship, the LPGA Tour’s season finale.
But before then is the CPKC Women’s Open at Mississaugua Golf and Country Club. While it’s not specifically close to Brooke and Brittany’s hometown, it’s close enough – and Brittany knows the pair will feel the love.
“It’s a big star on our calendar always – something we look forward to throughout the year, especially this year being back home-ish,” Brittany says with a laugh. “It’s a big deal. We’re going to have a lot of family and friends who will come out and support. It’s a highlight of the year, and we definitely want to try to play well for it!”
