The heartbreak of having Justin Thomas lift the Dell Technologies Championship from him two weeks ago is over, with Marc Leishman taking the BMW Championship as the PGA Tour heads to Atlanta for the Tour Championship to wrap the FedExCup.
This time Leishman bettered another Justin—Englishman Justin Rose—to take the title heading into the final tournament of the season. Rose made the big move of the week, jumping from 16th to 7th on the FedExCup standings.
“I feel awesome about this,” Leishman said. “It’s a long week when you lead everyday—it takes energy out of you.”
Using an Epic Driver and Chrome Soft X ball, Leishman had a bag full of Callaway clubs to win his second PGA TOUR event of the season. Check out all of the Callaway clubs in his bag.
The win puts Leishman in fourth-place and well within striking distance of leader Jordan Spieth, who narrowly leads Thomas.
The only Canadian in the field this week will be Abbotsford, BC’s Adam Hadwin, who closed the final with a 65. Hadwin sits in 21st spot heading into the final week, and will represent Canada in the Presidents Cup.
Unfortunately for Dundas, Ont.’s Mackenzie Hughes, he won’t be joining Hadwin at the Tour Championship. The PGA Tour rookie, and winner of the RSM Classic, entered on the bubble for the final event, but stumbled in the final round to drop from 31st to 36th.
Leishman will be one of the International Team players who will need to step up that week if they have any hope of bettering a strong American team.
“It will be fun,” he said. “We’ll need to be on our games with obviously the American team being as strong as it is and obviously they’ll have the home crowd. It would be tough for us. Going in as a leader I guess is something new to me with all the good names that are on the team. It’s a nice feeling.”
