Henderson still in peak form as LPGA season concludes

Golf Town athlete Brooke Henderson wrapped up her 2017 season on Sunday with a strong finish at the LPGA’s Race to the CME Globe.

She finished T25 overall, behind winner Ariya Jutanugarn, who won the tournament on Sunday by carding birdies on four of the last six holes, while Lexi Thompson won the Race to the CME and its $1-million prize. Brooke finished with an even final round and a total of 6-under par.

With two victories in her second full year on the LPGA Tour, Henderson has plenty to be proud of this year.

“I believe it was a great follow up to last year,” Henderson says. “I had a miracle season —so many things went perfect for me. This year I kind of battled through a little bit more, a little bit more up and down. But to get two wins out here with the number of talented players and the consistency that’s out here on the LPGA Tour,  I’m really proud of that.”

Brooke, who is ranked 10th in the world, and was fifth on the Race to the CME Globe coming into the final tournament, still had a hugely successful year, with a win at the Meijer LPGA Classic in June, a record-setting round at the CP Women’s Open in Ottawa with thousands of members of the #BrookeBrigade cheering her on, and a second victory at the New Zealand Women’s Open in September.

Brooke says, though the year is finished, she’s still in peak form.

“I feel like my game is in a great spot,” she says. “You know, mentally I think I’m a lot stronger than I was last year, which is a big improvement. Definitely helps on and off the course. I feel I’m a lot more energized and ready to go to play this last event of the year.”

Brooke played 30 tournaments this year, and says she’s found a comfortable spot as a regular on the LPGA Tour. When asked if there are any changes for next year? She responded, “My first year out on tour I wanted to get the full experience,” she says. “That way maybe we’ve become a little bit smarter in picking and choosing, but I feel like my schedules have been the correct schedules for the way I’ve been playing, the way I’ve been feeling, and the way the years have been setting up.”

Brooke’s season is now completed, with the LPGA Tour returning in the new year.  Congrats from all of us at Golf Town for an incredible year, we can’t wait to see what 2018 holds!  #BrookeBrigade
