While the thermometer hit the mid-thirties at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, no one was hotter than Golf Town Athlete Brooke Henderson, who posted the low round of the final day, a 7-under 64 to propel herself into a tie for fifth.
“I played my best golf here, and I finally got used to the heat,” said Henderson, from Smiths Falls, Ont. “It was super-hot all week but it was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed being here.”
Henderson finished with a clean card that included seven birdies and no missteps in the final round. She had four rounds under par, finishing two shots behind winner Cristie Kerr.
“I feel like when you’re hitting it well, you can definitely make birdies and shoot under par,” she said. “I was really confident in how I was playing and I was just excited to be out there today. To see putts going in was really awesome, and I’m just trying to use this as momentum going into my last event in Asia this year.”
Henderson now sits fourth on the Top 100 money list, with $1.47-million in earnings, trailing only Lexi Thompson, So Yeon Ryu, and Sung Hyun Park. The finish was her fourth top 10 in her last six starts, which included a win at the New Zealand Women’s Open at the end of September, and eighth of the season.
There are three tournaments left in the LPGA’s 2017 schedule, which wraps up with the CME Group Tour Championship in Florida in two weeks.
For her part, Henderson is enjoying riding a hot hand on the course.
“I feel like this stretch has been really good to me,” Henderson said after her round. “I’m kind of including New Zealand into it, and starting off with a win was awesome for me. It gave me a lot of confidence, and to get my second win of the season really meant a lot to me.”
