Even rain that plagued the Kingsmill Championship couldn’t dampen the exceptional play of Canadian Brooke Henderson.
Brooke, a Golf Town athlete, carded a 6-under final round to finish the tournament in fourth, only one shot out of a playoff won by Ariya Jutanugarn.
“I just had a lot of great energy today,” Henderson said after her round. “I started off with three birdies right off the start. Felt like I could really go low today, which is a great feeling. I kind of leveled off for little while there, but then on the back nine to finish with I think four birdies pretty close together is awesome.”
Brooke birdied 15 through 17 to make a push at the leaders, but eventually came up one short. She would have benefited from an additional round, but rain turned the tournament into a 54-hole event.
“I came up a little bit short this week, but just to be in the hunt again and to feel that kind of adrenaline and to see my name at the top of leaderboard—it’s always a lot of fun,” Brooke said.
What’s next? Brooke is taking this week’s tournament off to prepare for the U.S. Women’s Open at Shoal Creek. She said her game is in a good spot heading into the tournament, but she’s going to practice in preparation for the second major championship of women’s golf. Brooke said she’s in a good spot, especially when it comes to her ball striking.
“I started to roll in some putts this week, too, which is always a good feeling for me,” she said. “I’m going to take a week off and I’m going to go to Florida and practice and get ready for the U.S. Women’s Open and hopefully put in a good show in there.”
I love watching the LPGA the announcers try to ram the USA down our throats with Lexi Wie and some others but the WORLD dominates that tour. Including our own Brooke Henderson
