First it was Tiger and Phil. Then it was Tiger and Tom Brady vs. Phil and Peyton Manning. Then Woods stepped aside to have Charles Barclay join in against Peyton Manning and Stephen Curry, before the next match saw Bryson DeChambeau hit the course with NFL star Aaron Rodgers and take on Tom Brady and Mickelson. Finally, it was a grudge match between Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.

In the latest version of The Match, which will air on TNT on June 1, NFL quarterbacks Brady and Rodgers will team up to face Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. The players represent four of the last five NFL MVPs.

For Mahomes and Allen, it’ll be their first appearance on the made-for-TV event, which is being held at the luxurious Fazio course at Wynn Las Vegas. Mahomes, the 2018 NFL MVP with the Kansas City Chiefs, will be paired with 2020 Pro Bowler Allen, who plays for the Buffalo Bills. All told, the four football stars have 30 Pro Bowl, 86 NFL Playoff appearances, and nine Super Bowl titles between them.

Coverage of the event will feature unique access to the players, with open mics throughout the competition, including the ability for the players to interact with the announcers.

Game, set, match: A short history of The Match

Match 1 (2018): Tiger Woods versus Phil Mickelson

A pay-per-view outing saw Woods face off against arch-rival Mickelson with $9-million on the line. The match, which demonstrated the two golfers don’t have a lot of love lost between them, went 22 holes before Mickelson prevailed in a playoff.

Match 2 (2020) Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning versus Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady

To spice things up, football stars were added into the mix of a rain-soaked event. Though there were a lot of suspect shots, Woods and Manning won on the 18 with a clutch putt.

Match 3 (2020) Phil Mickelson and Charles Barclay versus Stephen Curry and Preston Manning

Barclay is notorious for having a terrible golf swing. Curry has the reputation as an outstanding golfer and basketball player. Turns out it didn’t matter as Mickelson led his team to a 4-3 win.

Match 4 (2021) Bryson DeChambeau and Aaron Rodgers versus Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady

The football players were back, and the big-hitting DeChambeau made his debut. Bryson and Rodgers won 3 and 2 in the event held in Montana.

Match 5 (2021) Bryson DeChambeau versus Brooks Koepka

Bryson and Brooks don’t get along. To settle things, they played a 12 hole match in Las Vegas. The problem was Bryson couldn’t find his game or the fairway, and Brooks cruised to a 5 and 3 win in the 12-hole match.
