Alexis Card, who plays out of Galt Golf and Country Club in Cambridge, Ont., may well follow in the footsteps of her hero, Brooke Henderson, after winning her division at the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship at Augusta National, just ahead of this week’s Masters.
Card won the 7-9 division for girls with 23 points, edging out fellow Canadian Anna Wu, who plays out of Royal Colwood in Victoria, BC, finished second and had 21 points.
Although Anne finished second, she caught the attention of past Masters Champion Phil Mickelson after she chipped in and showed off her impeccable technique that Lefty approved.

Another lefty Masters champ Bubba Watson went over to Anne and give her some props on sinking that ship.

The event consists of a focus on golf’s fundamentals, with points awarded for drives, chips and putting, with each participant hitting three shots from each category. The overall winner from each division is the player with the highest score. With only nine shots to play, each swing carries a bit of added pressure.
Card previously won the U.S. Kids Golf 2017 and 2018 Canadian Invitational, and took home the trophy at the U.S. Kids Golf 2018 Pennsylvania State Invitational, following it up with a 7th-place finish at the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship.
Cole Roberts was the third Canadian competing in the field in the 7-9 division for boys. He finished 7th.
Card was inspired to take up the game after watching her brother, Brayden, play, calls Ian Poulter the “coolest golfer,” and said she hopes to one day play as well as Henderson.
Why is Henderson her hero? “Because she is Canadian and she is a very good golfer who has won a lot of tournaments on the LPGA,” noted Card. “I look up to her and want to be like her one day.”
