CATCHING UP WITH BROOKE HENDERSON: LOOKING TO MAKE MORE HISTORY IN 2022

It’s hard to believe, but 2022 will mark the eighth LPGA Tour season for Golf Town Athlete Brooke Henderson!

The 24-year-old has accomplished almost everything there is already in her young career, but she’s as motivated as ever to keep the momentum going and achieve even more dreams this season.

Brooke, who won for the 10th time on the LPGA Tour last year at the Hugel-Air Premia LA Open, is already a major champion and a mainstay in the top-10 of the Rolex Rankings.

“To get that 10th win was super cool,” said Brooke, “and I’m excited for hopefully more this year.”

This year she’s most looking forward to returning to the CP Women’s Open – after two years without the national open being contested – as well as the opportunity to play a more robust schedule. Her usual game-plan for tournaments has been interrupted the last two seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but she’s confident that she’ll be able to enjoy a more normal year ahead.

“I am really looking forward to the whole season and getting to play a full schedule this year,” says Brooke, who will make her 2022 debut at the Tournament of Champions in Orlando on Jan. 20.

“I also can’t wait to get back to Canada and see all the fans at the CP Women’s Open! Another big week for me will be at the LA Open as I go in trying to defend my title. And of course, the majors will be a focus for me with some great venues coming up.”

The 2022 LPGA Tour schedule is an impressive one, with golfers on the Tour competing for a record purse of more than $85-million (U.S.) over 34 events.

The major championships will be contested at Mission Hills Country Club (Chevron Championship – for the final time after 50 years), Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club (U.S. Women’s Open), Congressional Country Club (KPMG Women’s PGA Championship), Evian Resort Golf Club (Amundi Evian Championship), and Muirfield (AIG Women’s Open – for the first time, and just three years after the club first admitted female members).

“It’s exiting!” said Brooke at the end of 2021 about the upcoming year on the LPGA Tour. “The purses have all gone up. We’ve gained some tournaments. And everything is on the up and up. I’m looking forward to 2022 and hopefully performing well.”

The 2021 season wrapped up in late November and Brooke said she enjoyed time with her family through the holiday season – while also working on a couple of specific areas in her game.

Last year was, of course, a wild ride for Brooke. She spent much of the summer travelling the world – going back and forth between the United States and Europe, plus a trip to Tokyo to compete in the summer Olympics – and enjoyed the downtime to recharge.

“This off-season I tried to focus on rest and spending some quality time with my family,” says Brooke. “While it’s important for me to take some time away from the golf course, I also had a few key areas that I wanted to work on with short game and ball-striking. I spent some extra time working on those, and I feel confident that will pay off as the season gets going!”

Brooke will start the 2022 season on the LPGA Tour ranked 10th in the world. Two other Canadians – Maude Aimee Leblanc and Maddie Szeryk – will join Brooke as full-time LPGA Tour members.

“I (was) still in the top 10 in the Rolex Rankings when the season ended, which feels awesome,” said Brooke. “And knowing that I have room to grow and room to improve is very exciting and I look forward to the opportunity to do that!”
