A couple of majors. Four other Top 10 finishes, including two second-place showings. Top 10 in the FedEx Cup.
“On behalf of the PGA Tour, our congratulations to Brooks Koepka on being voted PGA Tour Player of the Year by his peers,” said Jay Monahan, the tour’s commissioner. “Brooks has brought a new brand of athleticism to the PGA Tour, and we saw the results this year with his historic season at the major championships and a Top 10 finish in the FedExCup.”
It is pretty easy to see why Brooks Koepka was voted as the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year. The award, for which Koepka received the Jack Nicklaus Trophy, was voted on by tour members who played in at least 15 FedExCup events over the 2017-18 season. Other players who were nominated include Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Francesco Molinari, Justin Rose and Justin Thomas. His peers were quick to congratulate the 28-year old on Twitter:
Many congratulations on @PGATOUR Player of the Year & an outstanding season @BKoepka. No doubt a dream year, now 3 Majors to your list of impressive accomplishments. And you're not done yet! Proving fit, strong and flexible on the golf course is a recipe for success. My best. GP pic.twitter.com/54WOb1Apox

Congrats to BK @BKoepka on POY honors. Extremely deserving and played some unbelievably clutch golf at the biggest stages all year. Go lift some weights to celebrate 💪🏽

This was about the only surprise that came with @BKoepka winning the Nicklaus Award as the @PGATOUR Player of the Year!

Koepka, who made $7,094,047 over the course of the season, was named the top player despite missing four months at the start of 2018 due to a wrist injury. He missed the Masters but returned at the Zurich Classic in April. It was his win in challenging conditions at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills where Koepka really started to shine, becoming the first player since Curtis Strange to win consecutive U.S. Open titles. Koepka would capture the PGA Championship in August, his third major in two years. Koepka is only the fifth American since the end of World War II to win three or more majors. He finished the season a career-best ninth in the FedExCup standings.
