Golf Town athlete Brooke Henderson won the New Zealand Women’s Open Monday morning, after heavy rain and wind delayed the event. Henderson, 20, from Smiths Falls, Ont., won by five-shots. It was her first victory outside of the United States.
“I was feeling pretty comfortable out there and I was just trying to keep it at minus 17 as long as I could,” Henderson said after the win, for which she was awarded $195,000. “I had a couple of bogeys but made a lot of birdies and it was probably some of the best golf I’ve played in a while.”

Henderson said the win was the great way to cap a season that got better as it progressed.
“I’m just so happy to win here,” she said. “My season has been kind of up and down, steady for the most part. I got a lot of questions early in the year, but now to get my second wind is great going into the last five events I’m going to play.”
The win is Henderson’s fifth on the LPGA Tour and second this season, making her the only player with multiple victories in both 2016 and 2017.
