Defending champion Minjee Lee – who topped Jeonguen Lee6 in a playoff last year – will come into the major having won twice already this season (including another major, the U.S. Women’s Open) and leading the LPGA Tour in most of the key statistical categories.

The championship, which was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, returned in a big way in 2021 with all the big names in the women’s game back in action.

Another notable who had a solid result a year ago was Chun. Chun finished tied for sixth in 2021. She won the Evian Championship in 2016 and set the major championship scoring record that year. She’ll come into The Evian having won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in June – her third career major title.

Golf Town athlete Brooke Henderson returns to The Evian Championship after finishing tied for 25th a year ago. She has finished outside the top-25 at this major just once in her career and has two top-10 results. Her best finish is a tie for 9th, which came in 2016.

This major – like the Chevron Championship – is always played at the same golf course each year which helps with preparation. The course is built on the side of a mountain and features dramatic views (like the 100-foot drop from the tee box on the second hole with Lake Geneva in the background).

Brooke has said in the past returning to the same course each year helps to reduce the pre-tournament stresses that come along with major week.

“It’s not as stressful on the practice round days because you know what to expect, so it was really nice. I feel like we’re really familiar with this golf course and we kind of know where to hit it and where to miss it, which is really important, especially here with all the hills and slopes that the greens have,” said Brooke.

Brooke will head across the Atlantic in search of her second victory of the year and first major title since 2016.

She’s been in the mix at each of the majors so far this season and has notched results of T13-T15-T16 in the Chevron Championship, U.S. Women’s Open, and KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, respectively. She won the ShopRite LPGA Classic for her 11th LPGA Tour title in June, defeating Lindsey Weaver-Wright in a playoff.

Statistically, Brooke’s season has also been impressive. She’s second on the LPGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green and is fourth in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee. She sits 10th in the world.

After a busy four-week stretch on the LPGA Tour Brooke returned home to Canada to celebrate the return of the CP Women’s Open and will be rested and ready to head over to France as she looks to contend in this year’s Evian Championship!
