Golf Town athlete Brooke Henderson will be defending her title this year at the LOTTE Championship – finally, and again.
Brooke, who won the Hawaii event in both 2018 and 2019, could not defend her trophy in 2020 as the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, she’s as excited as ever to return to the island and try to win her third-straight LOTTE Championship.
“It feels amazing,” said Brooke. “I definitely love the LOTTE Championship.”
Prior to breaking through for a win in 2018 Brooke had good results in Hawaii, finishing T10 in 2016 and T11 in 2017. She won by four shots in both 2018 and 2019.
Although Brooke loved playing at the Ko Olina Golf Club, it was announced in late March that the tournament has moved in 2021 to Kapolei Golf Club – a past PGA Tour Champions host club (2012-2014).
Still, Brooke said she’s had so much success in Hawaii because of the atmosphere.
“It’s always chill and relaxing, and I just look forward to it every year,” said Brooke. “It’s just beautiful – the wildlife, the flowers, the ocean, the general vibe of everyone there is very relaxed and calm. It’s just very beautiful. It’s just a nice feeling.”
Brooke said even though it’ll be “kind of weird” to be the defending champion again in 2021 despite her last victory coming two years prior, she will be leaning on all of her great memories from both 2018 and 2019 on the island.
