Brooke Brigade is marching to Regina for CP Women’s Open

By any metric, Golf Town athlete Brooke Henderson has had a solid year on tour so far. She’s had seven Top 10s in 19 starts this season and picked up the sixth victory of her LPGA Tour career at the Lotte Championship in April. Brooke will headline the CP Women’s Open this week, where she will look to capture her national open for the first time. This will be Henderson’s seventh appearance at the Canadian Women’s Open, earning her best result last year when she finished in a tie for 12th at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club.

This year, the tournament moves to Wascana Country Club in Regina, Saskatchewan—it is the first time the event has been hosted in the prairie province. It also marks Brooke’s first trip to the region, and having visited the host course earlier this summer, she says that there is no doubt that it will be a great event.

“This one is obviously always circled on my calendar and I can’t wait to get out to Regina,” Brooke told Golf Town. “I went for media day and was able to experience Saskatchewan for the first time and really enjoyed my time there. It looks like it will be set up really well for our national championship and I am excited to see how the fans out there embrace the LPGA.”

Once again, the “Brooke Brigade” will be out in full force supporting the Canadian superstar. In an effort to grow the game for young fans, Golf Town will be offering juniors the unique chance to watch their hero from special viewing zones for “Brooke Brigade” members only, and will be handing out free t-shirts to the first 75 juniors each day to come to the Golf Town booth at Wascana Country Club. This is in addition to 250 Brooke Brigade kits we already handed out to juniors earlier this year at a Meet & Greet with Brooke at our Regina store.

Young fans watch Brooke Henderson compete in the 2017 CP Women’s Open.

Henderson’s game might be perfect for the longer, open layout at Wascana. She currently ranks eighth on tour in driving distance and third in greens in regulation. She has also proven a knack for making birdies this season, ranking sixth on tour despite averaging nearly 30 putts per round. And Brooke is due for a win too—she has held the lead on Sunday three times in her past six events, but hasn’t been able to capitalize. It appears as though a perfect storm might be brewing toward a Henderson victory at the CP Women’s Open.

But with all the expectation, Henderson says that she isn’t feeling any added pressure, and though she’s excited for the event, she will try to make it feel just like any other week.

“From a preparation standpoint, I won’t be changing all too much, though it is a bit different than last year as I had the week prior off in Ottawa in 2017,” Brooke said. “This year, I’ll be playing down in Indiana and then there is a flight getting all of the players and caddies in on Sunday evening. I think that will help as far as keeping things as close to “business as usual” for me and trying to treat it as another week on tour, even though I know it means so much more than that.”
