Glen Abbey Golf Club has traditionally played as one of the easier courses on the PGA Tour, but its mix of undulating greens and great bunkering can pose a great challenge when conditions get firm and fast. The Jack Nicklaus design features a mix of tough par 4s alongside more gettable 5s, allowing players to take advantage with superior ball striking.
Glen Abbey is hosting the Canadian Open for the 30th time this year and has been the tournament’s most consistent home over the past few decades. With great weather over the past few weeks, Glen Abbey is sure to be in prime condition to take on the world’s best players. The Canadians in the field will no doubt have the support of fans in attendance, but here are a few other notable players competing.
Dustin Johnson
Always a favourite at the RBC Canadian Open, Johnson will be looking for his third win of the season at this year’s tournament. His last two starts at Glen Abbey have yielded T2 and T8 finishes, and the current world No. 1 will be looking to continue this success this year.
Brooks Koepka
As the two-time reigning U.S. Open champion, Koepka will be looking to add another national championship to his resume. The fourth-ranked player in the world will be making his first start at the RBC Canadian Open since 2015, where he finished in a tie for 18th.
Bubba Watson
Arguably the hottest player in the world this season, Watson already has three wins to his name in 2018. Watson’s best finish at the RBC Canadian Open was a 2nd in 2015, and he will be looking to better that this year.
Sergio Garcia
A late addition to this year’s RBC Canadian Open, former Masters winner Sergio Garcia hasn’t played the tournament since 2001. Back in the days when Tiger Woods used to play the tournament, Garcia finished in solo third and a tie for fifth in 2000 and 2001 respectively. Garcia missed the cut at the British Open, but is still ranked in the Top 20 in the world and will surely be one of the top draws for fans this week.
Tommy Fleetwood
Another great addition to this year’s RBC Canadian Open field, Fleetwood has split his season between the PGA and European tours. Coming off a 2nd place finish at the U.S. Open, Fleetwood will be looking to make his first RBC Canadian Open start a great one.
Jim Furyk
Always a threat north of the border, Furyk will be looking for his third RBC Canadian Open victory. Despite not having his best season so far, a return to familiar territory might be just what Furyk needs to get back in the winner’s circle.
Jhonattan Vegas
Two of Vegas’ three career PGA victories have come at Glen Abbey. Despite only one top 10 finish this season, the defending champ cannot be ignored.
