Aaron Wise voted 2018 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year

Aaron Wise, the only rookie to make it to the Tour Championship in the FedExCup, was named as the PGA Tour’s Rookie of the Year. Past PGA Tour Rookie of the Year winners include Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, and Rickie Fowler.

Wise, 22, won his first tournament on the PGA Tour at the AT&T Byron Nelson. That made him only the second player to win on the Mackenzie Tour/PGA Tour Canada, where he was a standout in 2016, as well as on the Web.com Tour, and the PGA Tour. The only other player to pull off the trifecta is Canadian Mackenzie Hughes.

Wise was picked over Austin Cook, Japan’s Satoshi Kodaira, and Chile’s breakout star Joaquin Niemann. Wise, who finished 24th on the FedExCup, is one of only 12 rookies to make it to the Tour Championship.

Overall, Wise had four Top 10 finishes, including the win and a runner-up finish at the Wells Fargo Championship, as well as a 5th-place showing at the Northern Trust during the FedExCup. The University of Oregon golfer is the first player from the Pac-12 Conference to win the award as golf’s best rookie since Woods in 1997.
