Brooke Henderson has made history. After capturing career No.9 at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give, the Golf Town athlete now has the most wins by a Canadian on the LPGA or PGA Tour.
In classic Brooke Henderson fashion, she finished in style. The win – on Father’s Day, no less, with dad/coach Dave Henderson by her side all week, Brooke made three birdies Sunday and bogey on the par-4 16th, leaving most of her competitors with an open door as they came down the wire.
“I was just trying to make some more birdies out there and I just seemed to be rubbing edges all day,” said Henderson. “Then I looked at the leaderboard and it was really cramming up, getting packed.”
But Henderson showed steely resolve and gutted out two pars in a row to finish. Her 2-under 70 was enough.
After her win in Hawaii earlier this year, she was tied with Sandra Post, Mike Weir, and George Knudson for the honour. At just 21-years-old, history is just getting started for the young star.

Henderson started the day with birdies on No’s 4 and 6, and made the turn at 2-under. She didn’t get anything going through the early part of the back nine, but she birdied the par-3 13th after her tee shot landed just 15 feet from the hole.
She couldn’t take advantage of either of the final two par-5’s, and her bogey on the 16th came after an approach left her with a long putt the length of the green. She would three-putt from there. Henderson started the week with back-to-back 64’s (a 36-hole scoring record).
“Coming down here I figured after I heard that roar on the tee (on 18) and I would need eagle or birdie, so I was sort of surprised when all I needed was par,” she said of her finish. “I’m glad that’s it because I was really shaking on those couple putts there.”
This was Henderson’s seventh top-10 finish on the season, and with the win she moves to second in the Race to the CME Globe. It’s her second win in Grand Rapids, and her third-career victory on Father’s Day.
“I’m so grateful for everything (my dad) and my mom have done for both Brit and I,” said Henderson through tears on the green at Blythefield Country Club. “It really is a family event. I’m so happy.”
Next week Henderson goes for her second major championship title as she heads to the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship – which she won in 2016.
