59-46 of SCOREGolf‘s Top 59 Canadian Public Golf Courses

59. The Club at Bond Head – South

Bond Head, Ont.

A faux links on sprawling land between Toronto and Barrie, the South Course at the Club at Bond Head is big and broad with hallmarks of the Old World game. It is one of ClubLink’s daily fee facilities.

58. Storey Creek Golf Club

Campbell River, B.C.

Billed as a course in nature, Vancouver Island’s Storey Creek is just that, with twisting fairways through wooded terrain at an excellent price. Its finishing trio of holes is fantastic.

57. Grand Niagara Golf Club

Niagara Falls, Ont.

A Rees Jones creation, Grand Niagara is a well-manicured course with rolling fairways lined by wispy fescue near the Welland River. A three-hole dip into a forested area creates a nice contrast.

56. Gallagher’s Canyon Golf & Country Club

Kelowna, B.C.

Gallagher’s Canyon is known for offering stunning vistas of Kelowna as you play along a canyon’s edge. Ponderosa pines line billowing fairways on this popular Bill Robinson design.

55. Talking Rock Golf Course

Chase, B.C.

Designed by Wayne Carleton, Talking Rock takes full advantage of a beautiful parcel of forested land adjacent the Little Shuswap Lake, on which the final hole resides. It is one of Canada’s top hidden gems.

54. Bear Mountain – Mountain Course

Victoria, B.C.

Bear Mountain’s Mountain Course is adventure golf with extreme elevation changes and a great finishing stretch. The highlight here is the clifftop par-3 14th hole overlooking Victoria Harbour in the distance.

53. Waskesiu Golf Course

Waskesiu Lake, Sask.

Playing through Boreal forest on the shores of Waskesiu Lake in Prince Albert National Park, Waskesiu is one of Saskatchewan’s prettiest courses and features rumpled fairways and funky holes. Design credit goes to both Stanley Thompson and park engineer, J.H. Atkinson.

52. Fairview Mountain Golf Club

Oliver, B.C.

In B.C. wine country, Fairview Mountain delights the palates of golfers who play there. Its rolling terrain through a desert mountain landscape offers orchard views throughout, while its putting surfaces are sparkling.

51. The Links at Brunello

Halifax, N.S.

Tom McBroom’s The Links at Brunello outside Halifax has some truly breathtaking tee shots and several excellent holes that utilize the architect’s trademark exposed-rock look.

50. Heritage Pointe – Desert/Heritage

Calgary, Alta.

Calgary’s Heritage Point continues to offer a top-notch public golf experience, with its Ron Garl design holding up as well as it ever has. The linksy Desert nine and through-a-valley Point nine make a nice combination.

49. Silvertip Golf Course

Canmore, Alta.

Amid the Alberta Rockies, Silvertip is as dramatic a golf course as there is in this country, with the Three Sisters Mountain Peaks towering high above you as you play. It’s adventure golf to be sure.

48. Deerhurst Highlands Golf Course

Huntsville, Ont.

Overshadowed by newer Muskoka, Ontario courses, Deerhurst Highlands remains a solid layout with some very intriguing holes. Bob Cupp and Thomas McBroom collaborated on the design.

47. Golf Le Diable

Mont Tremblant, Que.

Le Diable — The Devil — is one of several solid courses in Quebec’s popular Mont Tremblant area. Designed by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, its trademarks are its red-sand bunkers and large greens.

Whistler, B.C.

Atkinson.

  1. Well it’s obvious you have MOT seen or played The new course in Calgary design by Phil Mickelson! Sadly I believe they will eventually go private but right now it’s public I’ve played many of the courses outlined and I think you should send someone to the new Phil Mickelson course west of the city of Calgary.

  2. Never played out west, but by the looks of these courses I see we are missing out on some of the best places to play anywhere in the world……………Now on my “BUCKET LIST”
