30-16 of SCOREGolf‘s Top 59 Canadian Public Golf Courses
30. Copper Creek Golf Club
Copper Creek is a Doug Carrick course with several excellent holes winding through a wooded valley and the striking par-4 10th, with its plummeting tee shot and water lurking along the left side.
29. Taboo Golf Course
Though there are long-range plans for a redesign, Taboo is very good as is, with great, challenging holes featuring the granite rock outcroppings that have come to define Muskoka golf.
28. Cobble Beach Golf Links
With views of Georgian Bay available at almost every turn, Cobble Beach is one of Doug Carrick’s most beautiful creations. The links-like design challenges with plenty of fescue and collection areas around its greens.
27. Glen Abbey Golf Club
The longtime host of the RBC Canadian Open hasn’t gone anywhere yet and continues to be a great play, especially after a much-needed bunker renovation. While some of the front-nine holes lack lustre, the Abbey’s valley holes hold up.
26. Wolf Creek – Links Course
This Links Course at Wolf Creek combines original and new nines by Rod Whitman. With Old World accents, its wide fairways offer plenty of attack options to ideally located green complexes.
25. The Algonquin Golf Course
Completely renovated by Rod Whitman and Keith Cutten a few years back, The Algonquin is yet another Atlantic Canada destination course. The first four holes on the back nine are outrageously good.
24. Northern Bear Golf Course
Northern Bear, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Design Course, features fairways blending seamlessly with tall trees and five lakes to keep golfers on their toes from the first hole to the 18th green.
23. Nicklaus North Golf Course
The stunning Nicklaus North is cut through a valley floor at the base of snow-capped mountains and around emerald-coloured lakes. How good does that sound? This course is one of few that bears architect Jack Nicklaus’s name.
22. The Ridge at Manitou Golf Club
North of Ontario’s Muskoka region on Manitouwabing Lake, The Ridge at Manitou contains all the rocky elements of a cottage-country track with one of the best finishers in the nation.
21. Tower Ranch Golf Club
Tom McBroom’s Tower Ranch drops hundreds of feet over its 18 holes, putting golfers high above fairways on many tee decks. Its vistas extend for miles, and some superb holes on the back nine ensure an excellent finish.
20. TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley – Heathlands
One of the best faux links in Canada, the original Heathlands track at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley is an excellent test of golf with superb conditioning. A revised routing has made for a better round.
19. Black Bear Ridge Golf Course
The late Brian Magee designed his own course at Black Bear Ridge near Belleville, Ont., in 2005. It features several stunning holes through tall pines, particularly coming home, and is always in pristine shape.
18. TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley – North
The parkland-style course at TPC Toronto contains wide, sweeping fairways, terrific green sites and a phenomenal risk-reward closing par 5. Doug Carrick crafted this course, as well as the two others at Canada’s only TPC facility.
17. Eagles Nest Golf Club
Constructed from a former gravel quarry, Eagles Nest is a visually stunning course with fairways running through sculpted dunes filled with golden fescue. The property’s high points offer views of the CN Tower some 30 kilometres away.
16. The Links at Crowbush Cove
A favourite among Islanders and vacationers alike, Tom McBroom’s seaside delight on the north shore of Prince Edward Island is a links-inspired design with rolling fairways, pot bunkers and multi-tiered greens.
Check back next Monday, August 2nd as we release the final 15 courses of SCOREGolf’s Top 59 Canadian Public Golf Courses numbers 15-1.
