29-20 of SCOREGolf’s 2019 Top 59 Canadian Public Courses

It is that time of year again! To celebrate the release of SCOREGolf’s Top 59 Canadian Public Courses, we are giving away a foursome to every course on the list! From Vancouver Island to Newfoundland, Canada is blessed with more than 2,000 beautiful public golf courses.  This is your chance to play at one of the 59 best with friends and family.  Make sure you follow along everyday on our Facebook Page, starting at #59 and working our way up to #1 for your chance to enter! For full contest rules, click here.

When SCOREGolf first launched its Top List in 2013, they chose 59 to coincide with golf’s coveted score, which had been carded at the game’s highest levels only a few times. Despite Jim Furyk coming along and bettering the score when he shot a 58 in 2016, the list remains the same size this year.

Using a rating scale that measures beauty, strategy, challenge, design, conditioning, Par 3s, Par 4s, Par 5s and fun factor, below is the Top 59 Public Golf Courses in Canada in 2019.

29-20 of SCOREGolf‘s Top 59 Canadian Public Courses

29. Wolf Creek – Links

This course is comprised of an existing nine holes at the previous 27-hole Wolf Creek with a new nine original designer Rod Whitman did in 2010. It includes the same old-world aesthetics as Wolf Creek’s Old Course but has overtaken it to be the higher-rated course on the property. Its wide fairways offer plenty of attack options to ideally located green complexes.

Ponoka, AB.

 28. TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley – Heathlands

Calendon, ON

There are several courses throughout Canada that were built in homage to the great Old World links, where the canvas on which golf is played is fairly open and subject to wind while hazards include pot bunkers and gnarly fescue. The Heathlands at TPC Toronto is truly one of the best.

27. Black Bear Ridge

Belleville, ON.

It doesn’t get much better in terms of homemade designs than Black Bear Ridge, which was created by course owner Brian Magee in 2005. One of the top bangs for your buck in Canada too, the course features several stunning holes through tall pines, particularly coming home, and is always in pristine shape.

26. Northern Bear

Northern Bear is one of four Jack Nicklaus Signature Courses in Canada, which is the highest tier in the Nicklaus Design portfolio. 24. The Ridge at Manitou

A good-news story in Canadian golf, this much-loved Thomas McBroom design was on the verge of closing two years ago before new ownership was secured. 23. Tower Ranch

Built on bench land high above Kelowna, Tom McBroom’s Tower Ranch drops hundreds of feet over its 18 holes, putting golfers high above fairways on many tee decks. Its vistas extend for miles from start to finish, and some superb holes on the back nine ensure an excellent finish.

22. Fairmont Chateau Whistler

Whistler, BC

One of four Fairmont properties on the Top 59, Chateau Whistler is a Robert Trent Jones, Jr., design built into the slopes of the Coast Mountain Range in Whistler. Massive elevation changes and nature’s accents — creeks, tall Douglas firs and rocky outcroppings — mark the course.

21. Cobble Beach

Owen Sound, ON

Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, with views of the water available at almost every turn, Cobble Beach is one of Doug Carrick’s most beautiful creations. Don’t get too distracted by the views though — the links-like design features plenty of fescue and collection areas around greens to keep you on your toes.

20. Le Maitre

Le Maitre has long been regarded as the best of the handful of courses in the tourist hotspot of Mont Tremblant. It also has the highest name recognition when it comes to architects too as fan favourite Fred Couples collaborated with Graham Cooke and Darrell Huxham for this masterful layout. Played along the Devil’s River it features wide fairways, large greens and several wetland areas.
