50-41 OF SCOREGOLF‘S TOP 100 CANADIAN COURSES
50. Eagles Nest Golf Club – Public
Eagles Nest is visual spectacular course that Doug Carrick crafted from an old sand and gravel pit. Sculpted dunes replete with golden fescue line most its fairways with the property’s high points offering views of downtown Toronto.
49. Royal Colwood Golf Club – Private
Given its royal designation in 1931 by King George V, Vancouver Island’s Royal Colwood is a wonderful course with fairways guarded by some of the largest Douglas fir trees in the world. It checks in at number 49.
48. Essex Golf and Country Club – Private
Although the golf course sits on a mostly flat property, there is both elegance and intrigue in Essex Golf and Country Club near Winsor, Ontario, given the genius of designer Donald Ross. An amazing set of green complexes adds definition to the property.
47. Summit Golf Club – Private
Like many Stanley Thompson city courses, Summit has a lot of movement to it, with its holes fitting seamlessly into the land. Doug Carrick has done a lot of work on the Toronto-area course over the years, helping it to keep it inside the top 50.
46. Mississauga Golf and Country Club – Private
Numerous architects have contributed to Mississaugua Golf and Country Club, which jumps up one spot to number 46 this time around. Originally a collaboration between Stanley Thompson and George Cumming, the strong course features a number of valley holes that navigate the Credit River.
45. Le Club Laval-sur-le-Lac – Blue – Private
The Mike Weir and Ian Andrew rebuild at Laval-sur-le-Lac stands strong at number 45. The Blue Course is an excellent design on a fantastic piece of property that features plenty of green surrounds to give players options around putting surfaces.
44. Cherry Hill Club – Private
The land on which Cherry Hill — a Walter J. Travis design — sits is not as dynamic as that of other courses on this list, but its holes are sensational nonetheless with top-notch greens and brilliant bunkering.
43. St. Thomas Golf and Country Club – Private
St. Thomas is another superb Stanley Thompson design in Southwestern Ontario. Its front nine is particularly strong and the overall course was greatly improved with a much-needed tree-removal program in recent years.
42. Big Sky Golf Club – Public
Bob Cupp’s Big Sky at the base of Mount Currie in Pemberton, British Columbia, is high on both beauty and fun factor as the course includes a series of excellent holes that call for golfers to be smart, precise and creative.
41. TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley – Hoot – Public
The highest-ranked of the three tracks at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, the Hoot Course is an total blast to play. Doug Carrick’s ode to the wasteland-style layout at the famed Pine Valley, the Hoot has 18 unique holes marked by tall pines and rugged bunkering.
