30-21 OF SCOREGOLF‘S TOP 100 CANADIAN COURSES

30. Stewart Creek Golf and Country Club – Public
Canmore, Alberta Giveaway Date: July 29

While it doesn’t boast the history of Alberta Rockies courses Banff Springs and Jasper Park, Stewart Creek is a must-play too. Just as Stanley Thompson did at those iconic tracks, Gary Browning showed restraint when building in the mountains and put playability above all else.

29. Goodwood – Private
Goodwood, Ontario

The exclusive Goodwood, where it’s golf and nothing else, not even a clubhouse, is a sensational course. Its 18 holes are built on mostly open and undulating land with a back-nine stretch ducking into some woodlands.

28. Humber Valley Resort – Public
Deer Lake, N.L. Giveaway Date: July 30

The remote Humber Valley is a superb Doug Carrick design overlooking Newfoundland’s Humber River, where two nines cascading in opposite directions from a hilltop clubhouse possess an array of wonderful holes.

27. Calgary Country Club – Private
Calgary, Alberta

Calgary Country Club makes a nice jump up this year’s Top 100, rising 14 spots to number 27. The property here is sensational, with big climbs and big drops, and the 18th hole adjacent the Elbow River is one of the best closers in the country.

26. Tobiano Golf Course – Public
Kamloops, B.C. Giveaway Date: July 22

Thomas McBroom’s Tobiano outside Kamloops, British Columbia, leaves one’s eyes wide all day long. The desert course on rumpled land overlooks Kamloops Lake and several of its stunning holes require hero tee shots spanning canyons.

25. London Hunt & Country Club – Private
London, Ontario

Moving up two spots to number 25, London Hunt is a Robert Trent Jones design that his son Rees renovated in 1999. Located close to the Thames River, the layout swells and sinks over wonderful land and includes a fantastic collection of par 4s

24. Mount Bruno Country Club – Private
St. Bruno, Quebec

Mount Bruno is a Willie Park, Jr., design that was tweaked by Stanley Thompson and, in modern times, by Thomas McBroom. It is a rolling, tree-lined course with testing bunkers and excellent greens and moves up to number 24 this time around.

23. The Pulpit – Private
Caledon, Ontario

The Pulpit, one of two courses at The Pulpit Club north of Toronto, is a daring design that lays claim to having some of the most dramatic tee shots in Ontario. Most of the course plays through a wooded terrain while a stretch of back-nine holes is linksy in character.

22. Muskoka Bay Club – Public
Gravenhurst, Ontario Giveaway Date: July 24

Amid marshy terrain in the Canadian Shield, Muskoka Bay was created by Doug Carrick and his then design associate Ian Andrew and is a wonderfully challenging course that demands excellence. Right from the opening hole, with its plunging tee shot, you know you’re in for an awesome day.

21. Coppinwood Golf Club – Private
Uxbridge, Ontario

Near Uxbridge, Ontario, and backing onto protected land, the Tom Fazio-designed Coppinwood is a magnificent and peaceful course with greens that will have you putting defensively, especially if you’re above the hole. Some of its back-nine holes are the best in Canada.
