Written by Derrick Tiu, Assistant Manager, Richmond British Columbia Golf Town
Our Holiday Gift Shop is officially open! The holidays are just around the corner, it’s time to start shopping for the perfect gift. Golf Town of course has everything a golfer could dream of, so I’m here to help find the perfect tech gift for the golfer in your life that is a obsessed with having the latest gadgets.
Bushnell Pro XE
The Pro XE provides compensated readings based on slope, temperature and air pressure. I won’t be playing another round of golf without it! A rangefinder is basically the 15th club in the golf bag. You can even turn off the slope function with a single button for tournament play where slope-capable rangefinders aren’t allowed!
Garmin Approach S40
This is your digital caddy in the form of a watch on your wrist. It keeps track of your score, yardage, hazards, and is compatible with an auxiliary app to let you compare scores with your buddies (if you dare). The S40 provides essential information to help you play your best round every round. Outside of golf it also functions as a smart watch that keeps tracks of your activities. It fills the function of a caddy as well as a fitness lifestyle piece.
Garmin Approach X10
I’m a big fan of the X10 because its simplistic and lightweight design. This tiny gadget is packed with over 41,000 courses out of the box and comes with free course updates. It also blends into any casual attire like a fitness watch! This is great for the golfer who wants a watch that is made only for golf and nothing else. The packaging is tiny so it’s easy to hide in case it is supposed to be a surprise Christmas gift or stocking stuffer.
Garmin Approach S10
S10 is my personal favorite over the S40 because it gives the same information on the golf course at a more attractive price point. This is the entry model to the “Approach S” Garmin watch series. Great gift alternative if he/she needs a bigger screen to easily, read.
Garmin Approach G80
The G80 is a GPS and launch monitor packed into one device. Not only does it act as a GPS on the course, it also lets you play virtual rounds in over 41,000 preloaded courses at a driving range. This is the perfect gift for the golfer who spends a lot of time on the driving range.
Voice Caddie SC300 Launch Monitor
SC300 SwingCaddie provides shot statistics such as distance, speed, and trajectory. Pair it up with a smartphone and you have a mobile simulator at a driving range. I find this very useful for my practice sessions at the range. Every golfer wants to play better, and this helps monitor improvements during their practice session.
Bushnell Tour V4
It was not easy to aim precisely at the pin with my not-so-steady hands on older range finder units, but the PinSeeker technology from Bushnell makes it easy to find the exact distance to the pin. If the ProXE is too fancy, this is a great alternative as a gift. The Tour V4 Green is $40 cheaper and is our exclusive color!
Nikon Coolshot 20 G2
Nikon Coolshot G2 offers great value for a basic rangefinder. It utilizes the First Target Priority Algorithm to assist with aiming at the pin. I found it easy to use even with glasses. Nikon is a well-known brand name that makes precision equipment such as binoculars and rifle scopes. At $279.99 it packs amazing value in the product and would make an awesome gift.
ABOUT DERRICK
Derrick Liu is an assistant manager at our Richmond location. He probably looks familiar to some of you because he has been with Golf Town for 7 and half years. Derrick’s favourite local course is the Quilchena Golf and Country Club. If you see Derrick on the course you will see him swinging the Honma TW747v irons.
Still undecided about what to buy for the golfer in life? A gift card is always a great gift that is always useful!
