Wilson Unveils New Staff Ball As “Fastest On The Planet”

“The fastest urethane golf ball on the planet.”

That’s quite an eye-catching statement, but it is one Wilson is putting out there based on robot testing it undertook in the summer and fall of last year. The Wilson Staff has a long history but has been eclipsed in recent years by rivals. The company is seeking to change this by presenting Wilson Staff as a four-piece alternative to balls on the market from the likes of Titleist and TaylorMade, with a medium-compression core that flattens trajectory and makes drives fly long and straight. There are two versions of the Staff ball—Staff and Staff X, which follows the industry trend of having one with slightly more spin.

Key technologies

V-Cor Advanced Performance

The key difference between the two versions of Wilson Staff is the core. The X uses a core that Wilson says “magnifies” energy to generate maximum velocity on drives, while the Staff ball has a medium compression core with a velocity boosting additive to help ball speeds on drives.

3SIX2 Urethane Cover

The cover on both versions of the ball was designed to create spin on all the key scoring shots—chips around the green, and knock-down approaches that stop and spin.

Which one is for me?

The Staff X is a higher launching ball with both the driver and irons, and will feel firm, while the Staff ball launches lower and feels less firm on strikes and is designed for maximum control. Both balls are available in white and yellow urethane covers.

The new Wilson Staff and Staff X golf balls will be coming this Spring!
