Wilson Driver vs Driver Teed Up

Wilson Golf’s head-to-head televised driver battle will commence its second season on Tuesday October 2nd, and this time with a deeper connection to Golf Town.

Golf Town’s own Geoff Pinheiro, our club expert and Senior Merchant for clubs, is set to appear in the show’s second episode airing on October 9th. “It was a show that really blew me away with the quality of the designers,” Pinheiro said. “The show really gives people insights into what it takes to design a club, and really sparked the imaginations of some people.”

The goal of the show, as was the case with the first season, is for designers to present their creations to a panel of judges, including Tim Clarke, the president of Wilson Golf, hockey legend Jeremy Roenick, and PGA of America pro Rick Shiels. It started with hundreds of club concepts and on the Tuesday premiere; the 14 lucky finalists will present their designs to the judges, ultimately leading to one winning drive Wilson design will bring to market for golfers all over the world. The designers include people from all walks of life, including a graphic designer, a designer of bowling balls, and a PhD student.

The winner of the contest, which airs over seven episodes, and concludes Nov. 13, will receive a grand prize of $250,000 and have a driver inspired by their concept in retail stores immediately following the conclusion of the show.

The Golf Town Connection

We were extremely excited when the team at Wilson Golf approached us about this exciting reality show and there was no one better to help bring this driver to life than our very own Geoff Pinheiro. Geoff brought his years of retail and golf experience to the show, with a focus on letting designers know that simply having a unique product isn’t enough—it has to have a storyline that connects with potential customers as well. He found the process of working with the teams—as cameras captured every discussion—to be very engaging, and true to life.

“I must say, I don’t know what happens after the second episode but it’ll be interesting to see how they take my feedback from a retail perspective and put it into play in their drivers. I’m excited to see what happens.”

It was the quality of the concepts for the drivers, and the enthusiasm of the inventors that really captured Geoff’s attention. And while he doesn’t have any sense of who prevails, he knows their final product will connect with Golf Town customers.

“I know it’ll be a good product—that much is sure,” he said. “I’m betting on it already.”
